Apologies if this review appears twice: I hadn't logged into my account when I first entered it.

The service and accommodation was excellent, but it was a pity the restaurant was closed. We had the superb platter the first night, but had to go into Rotorua the second night of our stay. Now, there are plenty of places to eat in Rotorua, but it is a bit of a drive away, and we would rather have eaten in the hotel.

Changing the subject: the menagerie is wonderful. There are three donkeys, some chickens, a goat and two pigs. I think every guest takes their photographs.

Room Tip: Upper rooms give a view onto Lake Rotorua.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. Our new dinning concept is more casual with our evening platters and this compliments the location and serenity of the lodge .We are delighted you enjoyed the second evening in our good offerings of restaurants. Come back soon

My wife and I decided on a whirlwind tour of NZ and basically had one night in Rotorua to spend, yet to maximize what we wanted to see. Fred and Alex were extremely helpful hosts who helped us organize everything. They advised us well on the plan. The lodge itself is a nice property with flair. But the real difference is made by Alex and Fred's warm, engaging hospitality. Would have loved to stay longer.

We booked a lovely weekend at Hamurana Lodge. Out hosts were extraordinarily friendly and their service is at a level I have rarely seen before. The setting peaceful, the rooms delightful and we will be sure to return.

We were met by host, Fred, as we pulled up in the driveway. Fred then showed us around the Lodge and the different rooms and facilities. Our spacious room had a small balcony, spa bath and separate shower - lovley decor.

We enjoyed using the tennis court and walking around the property and seeing the pigs, hens and donkeys. We did not use the outdoor swimming pool.

For dinner, we enjoyed the $95 platter which consisted of prawns, salmon, huge variety of different cheeses, breads, pate, grapes. There was plenty for two people to share.

We enjoyed a yoga class next morning (need to pre-book and extra cost).

If you are looking for somewhere to completely relax, I highly recommend this property which has a rural setting with distant views of Lake Rotorua.

Thank you to Fred and your wonderful staff.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the spacious room with a small balcony (executive suite)

I stayed at this hotel during our trip through New Zealand for two days. The host and the people working there are just exceptional. You are welcomed in a way i have hardly ever seen before.

However the rooms are not 5 star for the price you pay. The location is far away from everything if you want to go out at night. The Rolls Royce is nice at the entrance but when you see a car like this you expect renovated great rooms. But they are just not. Especially the bathrooms are pretty bad actually.
I am really sorry for saying this because i just liked the people there so much and they were so helpful. But it would be dishonest to the people here at tripadvisors that read my review also. And i expect honesty from all tripadvisor writers too.

We escaped from our 1 year old son for a weekend away and couldn't have asked for more from our hosts at Hamurana Lodge. The setting is beautiful and the facilities superb. We'll be back for our next getaway. the freshly baked croissants were a delicious touch and the dinner platter was enormous and wonderfully presented.

Room Tip: They all look divine but our suite upstairs was huge and so comfortable. Nice view of the lake too.
