Deserves the number one position on tripadvisor. We only stayed for one night and they gave us a free upgrade to suite which made the stay even nicer. But other than that it was just a great service and a very nice place to stay.

We have just spend two nights at the Hamurana Lodge and absolutely loved it. The suite we had was amazing with everything we could have ever wanted. The breakfasts were great and the building itself is beautiful. It is in lovely grounds and very quiet and peaceful. The manager, Patrick is such an asset to the hotel. He was so helpful and courteous and nothing seemed too much trouble. If we are ever fortunate enough to be able to go back to New Zealand we would love to stay there again.

I saw this boutique hotel was rated No 1 on Trip Advisor before we went. And now we know why. Beautiful building, well appointed rooms and a fantastic welcome. Sitting on the roof terrace sipping an ice cold beer after a hard day's sightseeing was such a lovely end to the day. Our only regret is that the chef was off on holiday. However we still got dinner - a 'gourmet platter' of cold meats, cheese , spiced prawns and salmon with all the accompaniments. It was presented on a huge tray and so beautifully adorned with flowers and leaves it seemed a shame to eat it. It was so good we had one the next night too! The wine list is short but the wines we had were excellent. We definitely intend to stay here again when we go back to New Zealand, but this time maybe later in the year when the chef is in residence.

Room Tip: WE only saw our room - No 9. Lovely view from our window and the whole place is so quiet - except f...

Kia Ora Carey, What a lovely way to describe the property. We are so happy you have fully indulged in our offerings and met our wonderful team. Indeed the balcony is the perfect place to summarise the day with a drink. Looking forward to your return very soon at Hamurana Lodge Boutique Hotel

Great location, close to everything, charmingly situated outside the town, a true villa with high style. I absolutely love its second floor balcony, great place for stargazing. Also enjoy sitting in the sitting area socializing with friends. The restaurant serves great food, totally formal family style. Great for reunion.

Room Tip: Second floor master bedroom is the choice!

A lovely building, in a lovely setting. Super friendly and knowledgable staff, particularly Patrick who welcomed us. But I would call this an upscale B&B rather than a hotel since the food options are rather more limited than most hotels, and the bathrooms are a bit plasticky and could do with an upgrade. The Rolls Royce parked outside is also a bit gauche. I made friends with the animals (a donkey and a goat) in the nearby pastures, and with the super helpful staff. It's pricy, but it's at the top end of what is available near Rotorua, and as a peaceful escape ideal if you're prepared to schlep out for dinner rather than have the very good but very expensive expensive evening platter.

Thank you Neil for your feedback and we are delighted you have thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us. We are delighted you enjoyed the evening Gourmet Platter which showcases some of NZ great produces. The Rolls is away :) so plenty of space now for guests cars. See you again on a next visit to NZ

On approaching the lodge not only on the first time but on subsequent returns, the staff were outside to greet us. Nice touch and well appreciated. Agree with other reviewers about small niggles, but on the whole an excellent stay. As to the Rolls, it is broken down. Not old enough to be of any value. Not new enough to be of any value. The owner is stuck between a rock and a hard place. But it seems to upset us lot, the reviewers, so I'm surprised that it was still there when we arrived. Just shows what our views are worth!!

I am struggling with this review because I want to be fair. It was certainly very good for the price paid for a last minute booking, I would not have felt it worth a very good rating at some of the higher prices quoted on the website. That said the welcome and all the staff we met were superb, the building is certainly different and gives a very relaxed vibe. The breakfast, a continental option, was first class. However I did feel the room we were in was not really up to standard, and I ask myself whether the owners have ever slept in the rooms and experienced them from a guests point of view. We were in room 10 and don't get me wrong there was nothing major wrong with it, except for probably half a dozen niggles which could so easily be improved or sorted at little cost. Please don't let this put you off as this is only one room, and being in the industry myself makes me very critical.
I agree with others the Rolls Royce is pretentious adds nothing to the house and we found it a bit odd. Move it!

Dear Anthony, thank you for your lovely review and glad you are recommending our services and offerings. Our rooms are constantly looked at but appreciate any feedback for improvements so will definitely be looking at them again.
