“Stay here.”

Whenever I travel, I always check out hotels on Tripadvisor. This place was #1, and now that I have stayed here 2 nights, I can see why it is so highly ranked. The staff bent over backward to do whatever was asked of them. They provided great service with a big smile.

Our room had a nice view of the lake. The hotel has a long driveway so you are off the road in a very quiet and pleasant location. The room was spotless ,spacious, and well equipped. Bed was comfortable.

We had a very nice continental breakfast served on fine china. Freshly baked croissants, fruit, cereal, etc.

We are so happy we found this place.

Kia Ora, we are very pleased to read your 5 star review, thank you for sharing your experience. We are lucky to have such a good location being away from the hustle and bustle of Rotorua town yet handy for many places of interests. Many guests wouldn't want to leave because they loved our freshly baked croissants :) we wish you a great week and look forward to hosting you again soon. warmest regards.

We have just arrived home from a very relaxing weekend away at this hotel.
The staff and customer service was superb.... From the time we arrived and were met in the driveway until the time we left.
Thank-you Sil....Tommy and Leonine for your wonderful service if I could clone you guys I would your hospitality was the best we have encountered in all our travels all over the world.
The hotel itself was beautiful set out in the country and away from the hustle and bustle of town..
But only 15 minutes away if you needed to go into town.
Hamurana hotel is small and quaint with having only 7 rooms the place is very peaceful.
Thanks for a great stay we will return

Room Tip: This hotel only has 7 rooms I believe so is very quiet....

Hamurana Lodge is a wonderful place. We stayed for 2 nights in June and truly enjoyed our stay. The breakfast is excellent and the staff welcoming. There were only 2 couples on the night's that we stayed and it was very private. It is located a bit out of town and away from restaurants. They have a cold plate option that sounded elegant, but costly. It would be nice if they offered a welcome drink or a local glass of wine and cheese plate on arrival. This could be included in the price and be a nice touch when so far out. It was pouring rain on our second night when we returned to the hotel and we were not looking forward to a drive out for a meal. The cold meal must be ordered 2 hours in advance and it is hard to know your dining thoughts at that time. Their receptionist and morning breakfast staff are fabulous. The chocolates and pretty card at turn down are a nice touch. Enjoy your stay.

Kia Ora and thank you very much for your review and suggestions. We are happy to hear that you loved the breakfast, the smell of freshly baked croissants lingers in the breakfast room every morning. Many guests like to appreciate our distance from town as the sulfur smells never travels this far, yet we are still pretty handy to a lot of sites especially the hidden gem of Hamurana Spring which is only 3 minutes drive from us. We encourage guests to book the Gourmet Platter a couple of hours ahead mainly because the platter contains quite some items e.g. a selection of cheeses, cured meat, seafood, bread, dips and assorted condiments, hence it does take some time to prepare. Guests like to enjoy it by the fireplace with a bottle of NZ wine, the platter has received a lot of compliments ever since the concept has been introduced. We do hope to have the opportunity to showcase it to you during your next stay. Wish you a great start of the week. Warm regards from Hamurana Lodge.

My Partner and I spent Queens Birthday weekend at Hamurana Lodge and loved every minute of it. The grounds were amazing, the lodge itself was grand, and our room was fantastic.

I applaud Patrick and his staff for their warm welcoming manner which added the final finesse to a lovely weekend.

Grounds are amazing, rooms are beautiful with character and yet modern comforts. Clean, comfortable. Feels like you are staying at a friend's beautiful home. The BEST part of all was the amazing staff. Everyone was kind, helpful and friendly. Patrick gave us fantastic suggestions about ways to plan our time there. Breakfast was outstanding. Fabulous experience.

Room Tip: All the rooms are outstanding.

We had a warm welcome from Sylvain waiting for us on arrival helped us with our bags and offered us a tea or coffee. We had drinks in the lovely little bar and games room that night and good chats and a beer with Sylvan again. Hamurana lodge was so peaceful, with fabulous staff, and had a great feel and charm to the place, even in winter it was a great country escape from the busy Auckland lifestyle.

Loved meeting Merlin (the donkey) Lee (the goat) and feeding them apples which the kind staff would chop up for us. Our room was very warm and a lovely view. The under floor heating in the bathroom a plus. The rooms and estate are older but maintained well and added to the charm of the place. Make sure your order the platter, we had one on the Saturday night and they turned on the rugby game for us (Hurricanes) was to much food for two of us but enjoyed it all the same with a bottle of wine. Our two night stay wasn't enough, we will be back in summer for a visit so we can try out the pool!

Thanks again to the awesome staff!

Sarah & Ian

Hamurana Lodge is a lovely boutique hotel slightly removed from town. We arrived after our long flight from the U.S. and subsequent 2 hour drive to find a very welcoming manager in Patrick. He met us outside on the stairs, carried our luggage, offered us a cool drink and showed us to our well-appointed room and had a lovely view of the lake. This was our first impression of New Zealand and provided a wonderful start to our vacation. Patrick was very knowledgeable and helpful with tourism needs and he was extremely professional at all times (always available but never intrusive). He elevates Hamurana from a quaint and enjoyable hotel to a 5 star accommodation. Thank you, Patrick!

Kia Ora Lisa, it's great to hear from you! Rotorua has a lot to offer, from geothermal landscapes, Maori culture, to adrenaline activities, the list goes on and on. However this city is often overlooked by many travelers. My goal is to find the right sights and the right activities for our guests and I'm very happy to hear that you liked what Rotorua had to offer. We look forward to hosting you again in the near future and let you experience more of Rotorua.
