This country hotel is set in beautiful grounds, with commanding views of Lake Rotorua from the upper floors and the terrace. All the rooms are well appointed, however try to avoid the rooms on the groundfloor at the back of the property. The views are not nearly as nice and if you're particularly unfortunate enough to be in Room 2, which is located directly under the main stairs, you will here a lot of creaking from said stairs as people walk on them.
The new hosts had only taken over a week before my stay and had drafted in half the family and friends to help keep things running. They're in the process of changing all the televisions to flat screens in every room and my room didn't have a tv at all at the time. This didn't bother me, but it may bother some of you.
Lastly, its best to go and eat out at night. The hotel does serve meals in the evening, but at 125 NZD for three courses its vastly overpriced. You can get a similar quality of dining in Rotorua for only 65 -75 NZD for three courses. Be warned!
