Absolutely fantastic.
Fred, Alex and staff do all the little things right as well delivering those main things we all expect from a good hotel.
Nothing is ever too much trouble for these wonderful hosts who made us feel like we were family.
The food is fantastic, the surroundings glorious and the company superb.
We can't wait to be able to come back.
Thank you!!

if you are seeking a hideaway luxury lodge yet conveniently central to all the activities in the Lake Rotorua area, then this is for you. Unpretentious yet impeccable, classy and stylish yet very relaxed, for older and younger folks alike. A perfect place to unwind and enjoy. Quality in every detail, great hospitality making you feeling at home right away.

Hamurana Lodge is a boutique hotel on the outskirts of Rotorua, set in attractive gardens. The bedrooms are not huge, but are attractive and comfortable, and have an individual look rather than a 'corporate' feel. The open areas, the bar, breakfast room and lounge are all attractively and well furnished. It has the feel of a 'well-heeled' luxury home, rather than just hotel. The hosts are extremely genial, and very accommodating. They are more than happy to help plan your time in Rotorua, and provide maps and essential jewels of information to make it more interesting. I had the best gin & tonic I've tasted in years (really) which came with a selection of delicious canapes - lovely!! We really enjoyed our relaxing stay in this attractive place. One of the highlights was a boat trip to the hot pools organised by the hoteliers on the Lake, which was fantastic.

Hamurana is a fabulous property nestled in the countryside just on the outskirts of Rotorua - close enough to quickly access the city, while far enough away so as to feel as though you're in a world of your own. My wife and I were looking for an escape from our demanding business schedule (and our kids), so decided to escape to Hamurana Lodge given the rave reviews we'd seen on Trip Advisor and on the recommendation of other friends. We're very glad we did as it certainly lived up to it's reputation. The property itself is gorgeous, and our hosts Fred & Alex simply brilliant. The tranquility of the "country feel" of the property mixed with the warm personalities of our hosts (without being overbearing, or intrusive), made for a wonderful respite from the busyness of our otherwise chaotic life :-) My wife and I agreed as we departed the following morning after our overnight stay at Hamurana that we wish we could have stayed longer, as it was simply the best!

The tudor style hotel located on a magnificent estate with beautiful gardens was the perfect haven for myself and my wife after a week of hiking in the Coromandel Peninsula.

Fred and Alex provide service and attention that is second to none. Whether it be topping up your wine while you are trying to play the perfect shot on the full size billard table, or providing another gourmet antipasta platter, it dosen't get any better!

Even little things, like during torrential rain having and umbrella ready so my wife would not get wet when she steppd out of the car, was a very pleasant surprise

Guys, keep doing what your doing!

We were a bit intimidated on arrival (I think it was the Rolls Royce in the driveway) however I felt our hosts (Fred and Alex) relaxed with us once they realised we were probably more used to camping than such elegance! I appreciated their assistance in getting us to our tour on time, and the bags of carrots and apples for the kids to feed to the donkeys. I liked the focus on sustainability, and the local and homebaked produce at breakfast (best breakfasts in New Zealand!).

Alex and Fred are terrific hosts who are extremely attentive without being interfering. The rooms are well appointed and the service 5 star. It's the type of place that you need to spend at least two nights. You can chose to relax or busy yourselves with all the sights of the Rotorua region. I would not hesitate to recommend Hamurana Estate to anyone who wants to treat themselves to a bit of luxury and get away from it all. (But make sure you leave the children at home!). We will return.
