“Awesome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 February 2010

I really enjoyed Treks because it was a block from the bar lol and 3 or 4 blocks from the main street.
The staff were awesome (well 90% of them), they booked alot of stuff for us. We booked our Tamaki village trip through them, bus tickets, they were awesome for information about Rotorua.
We had a twin ensuite room. It was 2 single beds, a little night stand and our bathroom. The beds were comfortable. This was our favorite hostle. We backpacked throught NZ and we stayed in some shady hostles haha but this was our favorite.
We originally planned to stay 2 nights but stayed 3...then a week later when were were coming back up to Auckland (we were flying from Auckland) we stayed another 2 nights.
6 bucks to do a load of laundry. Internet is 3 bucks for 30 minutes, if you walk down the street, you can get 2 bucks for 30 minutes.
We loved Rotorua, the people were great and it was a good place.
Canadian it was like 75 bucks a night. Its worth it thought.
It was safe, clean and comfortable.

There was nothing wrong with this hostel - the location was great, the toilet and shower facilities were great, staff were fine

Hostel was just very basic, and I have stayed in nicer hostels for less money in the past.

Still, cant really fault it

I stayed 3 nights and enjoyed my stay. The dormitory with 6 bunks was quite small, but there was lots of space in the kitchen/leasure area with lovely spacious balcony. I found the place clean. It has an excellent location too.

Stayed here twice during my travels round New Zealand, both times in a 4 bed dorm. The dorms with single beds as opposed to bunks are great - spacious enough and having nobody sleeping above/below you is always nice. The ones with bunks were alright, but the bunk frames are metal so did creak a bit, and the room felt smaller.

Bathrooms are very clean, with good showers and a hairdryer.

The kitchen is large and clean, but it was always busy so it was sometimes hard to find a frying pan...

Only slight disappointment is the TV room, as the couch isn't very comfy and it's not big enough for more than about 10 people to sit around. There's a dvd player but we couldn't find the dvds.

Good location near the centre of town.

We spent 1 night at YHA Rotorua and would not stay again. Considering i had booked 11 months in advance for a family room if possible, we were given a sterile, lifeless, dark room with nothing but 3 high frames of wood with mattresses on the top. Not ideal with a small child. Not until we tried to get to sleep did we realise that we had been given the room under the main stairs, so all night we had noisy guests, it seemed, jumping from one step to another and generally causing so much noise we had to ask if something could be done about it. A disappointing, never to be repeated stay.

Stayed 2 nights in a double-ensuited room. Very firm comfory beds and spacious bathroom. Though we are in first room at the entrance, it is quiet, all doors close quietly. Kitchen is spacious and well-equipped to cook your meal. Sufficient dinning area. TV room and lounge area has new comfortable seating. Staff are friendly and helpful too. Supermarket is about 15 minutes walk away. Great place to rest and relax!

We spent 2 nights at the Rotorua Treks YHA in a 6 bed mixed dorm for NZD24 per night. The room was a decent size for 6 beds and the heater worked well. The beds were a bit squeaky and the bed side lights it up the whole room. There were no lockers in the room which I think would have been better. The facilities, as expected from a YHA, were top notch, kitchen clean and well equipped, TV room OK but only had 4 channels (which if it rains all day as it did for both days when we were there, isn’t good). Again, the internet is expensive at NZD6 per hour. Location excellent for exploring the area.
