This is a little gem - fabulous staff and great rooms. Darryn was the duty manager and he couldn't have been more helpful. Well equipped rooms and all very tastefully done.

The boys who run this hotel are straight out of central casting and made us so welcome - rooms - really well appointed, breakfast - delicious, cocktails - sensational. They could not have been more helpful

Room Tip: They all seemed great - the upstairs suite had a huge living area

Sometimes in New Zealand the welcome is a little frosty but not at the Regent. Effusive and warm with humour and a smile. That refreshes like a shower after a journey. The rooms have been very nicely refurbished to a very high standard. the bathrobes are the softest ever and really make for a cosy evening. The restaurant is very good with a high standard in everything from breakfast through lunch and then dinner. In fact the restaurant seems to be open from 7 am til 10pm and nothing is too much trouble. Wines are good too.
The owners have put a lot of effort into achieving this in Rotorua and I wish them success.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are best

A great hotel right in the heart of Rotorua but at the same time away from the principal sights and tourist traffic.

It does appear from the outside to be a 'standard' motel but internally has been appointed to a higher standard.

Darryn in the front office was an excellent ambassador and very helpful with tips and an honest appraisal of the local tourist attractions.

Just a shame we did not have time to use their pool..

From the outside, this property doesn't look very inspiring. In fact, it looks like a motel. However, you can't judge a book from its cover.

There are many things that are going for this small hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful, from the front desk to the waiting staff at the restaurant. As soon as we checked in, the front desk staffer, without prompting, gave us a bit of orientation about the town and showed us a list of activities that we could do in town and around.

Our room is nothing lavish but spacious enough and it's nicely decorated and furnished. The food in the restaurant has interesting twists if you are tired of the simple straightforward food in other restaurant. If you want to try other restaurants, there are scores of them just one block away.

One disappointment was that it took so long for the desert to arrive we had to cancel it at the end. It was a real surprise because I assume that most desserts are mainly pre-made it's a matter of final touch such as plating before they are served. Maybe they do made-to-order desserts, which I don't think is advisable.

Room Tip: Try the restaurant at least one. The steak would be a nice choice.

After driving down from Auckland, my wife and I decided to spend two nights at the Regent. It's easy to see why this hotel (really a motel that has been refitted well) is so highly rated. Darryn at reception is exactly the kind of manager that hotels should have but rarely do. Informed about the area and has good relationships with local attractions that allow him to book pretty much whatever you need from reception.

The room itself is relatively new - it's small (we stayed in a one bed studio) but the space has been used well so it seems bigger. The decor is quite trendy and adventurous, I can see that it might not be to everyones taste however. I thought it was quite good.

From the moment you arrive at this fantastic property Darryn,Brent and all their wonderful staff treat you like long lost family. Situated a minute walk from Eat Streat(Rotorua signpost spelling), a couple of minutes walk to the Lake and wharf - you are smack bang in the middle of everything! The property has its own mineral spa which we loved. We had the salmon in the hotel restaurant, our compliments to the chef - one of the best meals we had in NZ. The room wanted for nothing and Oh so Chic. We have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone. If you are there on a Thursday night check out the Growers market in Eat St starts around 530ish
