“Superb accommodation and food in Rotorua!”
Reviewed 8 February 2012

We had a great stay in the 2-bedroom unit and the kids were looked after really well by the team. The rooms were both charming and comfortable, and the food in the restaurant was superb. The team at the front desk were busy, but effortlessly managed to look after all the queries from all the guests. After some big days sightseeing (boy, there's a lot to do in Rotorua!) we were happy to return to the hotel and it did feel like our 'home away from home' for the days we were there. Great atmosphere and great staff!

Having checked out of the Regent only this morning after a two night stay I feel like I have just left home! The Hotel is superb and the staff are truly fantastic especially Brent & Darryn who did a double act while checking us in and ensured out stay in Rotorua would not be dull! Having taken a year off work to travel the world in our 50's we are looking for a certain level of comfort & style and the Regent has it in spadefulls! One housekeeping issue we had was resolved in minutes. Breakfast in the Cafe Triple One Five on the corner was excellent and really good value. If there was a Regent in every town it would be our first choice.

Everything was excellent but don't let the staff on the desk talk you into the trip to the Mitai Mauri village in the evening which is a money spinning tourist trap!

From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Darryn the duty manager and staff. He was so helpful with suggesting places to visit and provided us with heaps of brochures. We stayed in a studio apartment upstairs overlooking the pool area. The photos displayed on their fantastic website and on tripadvisor are exactly what they are like - absolutely stylish with so many unique touches including very comfy robes and great toiletries. The owners have absolutely excelled in refurbishing this motel and all the great reviews are so well deserved. We ate at their restaurant one evening and the food was just devine entree, main and dessert with excellent wine and staff to compliment. Unfortunately it was to cool for a swim but we did try the mineral spa which we did find excessively hot so not sure how often this is being checked in regards to the temperature. As for the beds, it was like sleeping on a cloud they were just so comfy the only thing that let it down was although the sheets were of good quality they were a bit 'scratchy' but that's nit picky opinion. We would highly recommend this place for your stay in Rotorua, you will not be disappointed.
Just some other tips for your stay in Rotorua - don't bother going to Hell's Gate it's very pricey, run down and not that much to see. If you want to visit just one geothermal area go to Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland which Darryn recommended and he was so right it was fantastic. Don't miss going to the Polynesian spas (4 spas at different temperatures) it was a real treat and is open until 11pm. Museum is well worth the visit too. Great places for breakfast Lime Cafe and Fat Dog Cafe - my husband says he had the best chocolate drink ever at the Fat Dog and both cafes have excellent food and presentation.

Room Tip: We were happy with the studio room upstairs. It is a bit small but the way it has been set out and...

This was the best place we stayed on our 2 week trip around the North Island of NZ.
Just a fantastic place with so much attention to detail everywhere - the rooms, the restaurant, service. We had two nights here and wished it was a much longer stay.
The room was lovely - high quality decor, appointments and accessories, anticipating any need a guest may have.

The guys were friendly, fun and fantastic, doing everything they could to make our stay perfect. They arranged for our suitcases to be carried up to our second level room and carried them down again when we left. Nothing was too much trouble and they organised massages for us at short notice. They also gave us great information about places to visit.

We had dinner at their restaurant - our best restaurant dinner in NZ too. Again, top quality and the same attention to detail.

Great location - very central within easy walking distance of the lake, shops, restaurants, parks and other attractions. I would definitely come here again on a visit to Rotorua and have already recommended it to friends and family. Thanks Darryn and Brent for a fabulous stay.

Good location. Gave us umbrellas when it rained and checkin guys friendly enough. It was my husbands 40th birthday and I emailed the hotel to see if I could organize a cake at our dinner. No reply received and no mention of my request at checkin. Unfortunately that non response is all I will remember of the hotel as it was an important occasion for us.

Really lovely place to stay! They really do deserve all their positive reviews. It's right in the centre of town, free parking and the studio room I stayed in was lovely- super comfy bed, super soft and fine cotton sheets, i-pod dock, designer style room and bathroom. Lovely toiletries too! Thoughfully furnished and lots of attention to detail, which I liked.
Ate there once and the food was just great, as were the cocktails! The owners (I mainly dealt with Darryn and he was so lovely) were so helpful and welcoming, and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. The other hotel staff was just as friendly and nice, too.
I am trying to think of "constructive critisism" but the best I can come up with is that I couldn't work out how to use the alarm/i-pod dock, being a technophobe (but I was too lazy the walk the 25 yards to reception to ask how), so maybe a guide in the room might be useful for other technophobes like me? A magnifying makeup/shaving mirror in the bathroom would be great too. But that's really nitpicking of me- it's a really lovely place to stay. The rooms are fab, but the two owners are the ones who make the difference to making a good stay great! Thanks guys!

Room Tip: If you smoke or want easy access to sit outside, ask for one of the studio rooms on the ground floor...
