Wonderful helpful hosts, great staff. Some of the best food in NZ!

The owners have done a fabulous job of renovating what appears to be an older 60s strip hotel. The rooms are very clean, comfortable, and stylish with terrific bathrooms. The service from the staff was outstanding. It is a bit pricey but probably in line with the area.
We stayed here for two nights in a One Bedroom. Everything from the friendly check in where we given tons of information, the location and the cleanliness of the room was great. A very comfy room and bed. I would recommend this to anyone.
PS: Great Mojito's from the bar!
We have just returned from a family weekend (2 adults, one pre-schooler and a baby) staying in the Two Bedroom/Two Bathroom Executive Suite. The suite was perfect - clean, cool decor, spacious enough and light. The bed was FANTASTIC, like sleeping on a cloud, I want one. We had room service dinner on the 1st evening which was superb. The service from everyone was very friendly, helpful and efficient. I cannot fault our stay here. And our son was rather taken with the pool. After taking him on many fun things in and around Rotorua (luge, 10 pin, Redwood forest etc), the pool is all he talks about. Also, it is situated in a very central location. I can see why this is #1 in trip advisor, rightly so.
We stayed at the Regent in mid/late January 2012 in the Two Bedroom Executive Suite which was on the second floor overlooking the pool. We were traveling with our 15 month old and my parents so the two separate bedrooms and two full bathrooms with a central living room area was perfect.
Check in was a breeze with the owners showering us with a wealth of information and personal suggestions on what to do on our 3 day stay in Rotorua. They were all smiles and very helpful. The porter was very nice and pointed out need to know info on the hotel and helped us carry our luggage up the one flight of stairs.
The hotel room was great! The black and white decor was a nice change from your typical hotel decor without it being gaudy or overwhelming. They already had the baby cot and her own set of towels all prepared in the room as well. One of the first impressions of the room was how clean the area was which allowed us to let our baby crawl around without us cringing and the oval shaped glass coffee table was nice so there wasn't a sharp edge to worry about. The living room area had along one wall a built in desk and a bar sink, fridge, plates, cups, etc. and a microwave which was really nice to have to heat up food/drinks for the bub.
The rooms and bathrooms were immaculate. Could have done with a bigger bathroom trash can but it was still manageable. The walk-in rain style shower head was a nice touch too!
The hotel is situated just a block away from several dining options and across the street was even a small Mexican restaurant that was very popular as there was a wait for a seat.
We had a car (no problems parking either) so we drove down to Lake Rotorua, which is walkable as well. We took a nice stroll along the lake and there was a playground there for our bub to swing while watching other kids play.
The pool, although small, was still nice. But when we tried it, it was really cold. The small indoor hot mineral tub was very muscle relaxing though.
We noticed in the morning that the staff of the hotel was very meticulous with their cleaning though. No quick cursory wipe but rather getting down to nose level and scrubbing every inch. We saw the owners as they were walking past do little quick adjustments and picking up as well. It just shows what great pride the owners and staff take in their hotel.
We plan to come back to let my husband get in some mountain biking as we made this a family oriented trip. The owner let us know that the Regent's Flashpacker right next door has an area he could use to wash his bike, so I think that cemented our choice of where we'll be returning on our next trip!
I could go on and on with all the positives of this hotel and the staff.
The reception staff were so pleasant. I don't recall any hotel where on check-in, we were given such a great overview of the area, maps, brochures, suggestions, etc, by the really friendly receptionist. It made us feel quite welcome.
The majority of hotels in town seem to be far at the other end of the main area, not really within walking distance to the majority of restaurants. The Regent is tucked in between downtown and the waterfront, really easy to walk to the main dining area, shopping area, waterfront, etc.
The room was clean, bright, modern, and very comfortable.
