Owner description: Te Puia spans 70 hectares within the historic Te Whakarewarewa Valley, on the edge of town. We are home to the world famous Pohutu geyser, to mud pools, hot springs, to silica formations to the Kiwi bird and the national schools of wood carving, weaving, stone and bone carving. We have shared these treasures with manuhiri (visitors) for 170 years and proudly continue that legacy today.

geysers are very very pretty. at the time I arrived here the sun was setting making the scenes incredible. the guide was helpful as to explaining the heritage of the land. the kiwi birds were cute and I never knew carving could be so much hard work. The Maori cultural show was a great way to relax yet be entertained. the staff were very great! the food was delicious and for $99.. I was totally satisfied! would definitely recommend!

I was expecting more from the cultural experiences, and didn't realize how much of the focus is on the geothermal features. You could easily walk around the paths for 1-2 hours just exploring everything. They are magnificent for sure, and the kiwi birds are cute, but don't expect a lot of detailed info on the Maori culture. The concert was entertaining, and the performers were brilliant singers. There were a few who continually broke "character" and that lost the dignity and credibility of the whole thing. Made it feel like a boxed show for tourists instead of a representation of traditional song and dance. If you are looking for the cultural components more than the geysers and mud pits, another place would be better. But if you just want a taste, this place is fine. Their weaving and carving schools are pretty cool - nice to see the preservation of those arts continuing.

Thanks so much for letting us know about that we really appreciate constructive feedback like this and will look into this further. With such a range of attractions including the geothermal valley and Pohutu geyser, Kiwibirds, Maori cultural shows, Maori cultural schools and traditional model villages things can often be highlighted in different ways but this is very helpful feedback.

Happy travels!

The only things I wanted to see in NZ were the thermals, some maori culture and a kiwi bird. This place had them all, although due to being off a cruise ship it was busy and the lil kiwis were hiding.Loved the whole experience.
