We found this hotel when we had a bad experience with another, in desparation rang them and got a room. Great room, great spa and great price. Would recommend. they take dogs also. Great people. Plenty of parking and lots of room

From the outside, looks good, place is run by a jovial Korean woman who makes you feel welcome on arrival. Now those of you that have been to Rotorua will be aware of the ever present as ell of Sulphur and the host of Collingwood Gables conveniently uses this phenomenon to explain away issues in the room. Two TV channels didn't work, "It's the sulphur, it upsets the signal". A power point didn't work, it was clearly burnt out as burn marks were visible and it sparked when operated, "It' s the sulphur, it upsets everything!" The pump in the spa bath didn't work, "It's OK, you can still sit in it!" The exhaust fan in the bathroom didn't work. There was a dirty plate and knife left in the micro wave. Look, the room was OK, the bed comfortable, there was plenty of space, but there was an obvious lack of general maintenance carried out and I think the room got a very basic check over by cleaning staff. At $85 a night, the price was reasonable, but you expect things to work. There are numerous Motels around Rotorua and I'd be looking elsewhere on future trips.

Room Tip: Pick a room at the rear away from the road.

I stayed here for three nights in April 2014. I would have marked it an average had the room not smelled so strongly of cigarettes. When we raised this, they only offered to give us some spray to cover up the smell. It was a bit dirty, the bathroom was clean at least. Towels were stiff as cardboard.

Looks like it used to be a nice motel but has fallen into disrepair. It's cheap but don't stay more than a couple of nights.

Room Tip: Request the rooms away from the road, the ones close to the road are quite loud.

All we wanted was a nice weekend away from home.
On the way from Taupo we decided to stay in Rotorua as kids were tired on long drive So we picked up jasons accommodation guide and looked for a motel with private spa, called the number to check availability of rooms and the host insisted on the Credit Card number before giving us any details. Upon reaching the motel we wanted to check the room first before checking in .The host was rude and started yelling "this is not good ,no can't change your mind I will charge you for booking etc". Any way after that all fuss my husband agreed to stay.
Now the following was our experience.

*This is the worst motel we have ever stayed in.
*The host literally ruined our holiday she is very rude.
*children under 5 years are charged $20 each NOT FREE (as per guide under 5 yrs free)
*do not be deceived by the photos on websites/accommodation guides.
*very unhygienic room with dust gathered on furniture, blinds, lamps and every corner ,Filthy linen on bed.
*toilet dirty as, no toilet rolls only half used roll
*shower curtain and tray moldy, missing shower curtain hooks
*kitchen dirty , with no crockery and cutlery ,Bin had no bag to dispose rubbish.
*even the Spa was broken with one jet not working.deck around the spa was broken too.
*no range on wifi
*SKY TV was not working only freeview channels on NZTV which was also scrambling
*power points are broken and very dangerous especially if you have little kids.
*No telephone in the room
(the host agreed herself that it wasn't clean and she forgot to check it before we checked in .so she refunded only $20 to compensate)

Will never recommend this one ever.
So please do yourself a favour by not putting up in this motel.
ZERO STAR

We stayed 2 nights in March 2014. The unit we stayed in was set well back from the main street and was quiet. We can see that the Motel was once a well designed unit, but it was very tired and had not been cleaned properly. There were cobwebs in the bedroom. The switches in the living area were also very dirty. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom (and no place to hang it when we got one), and the extractor fans did not work, and the light over the toilet was not working. The kitchen was very sparse in terms of pots and utensils. The hot plate was either full on or off, no adjustment. We had to ask for dish washing liquid and glasses.

This motel was in dire need of a complete refurbish. Even just a really good clean would have helped. We had to wash the top lid of the kitchen rubbish bin, it was really dirty, the wallpaper in the toilet was hanging off the wall and some cobwebs in bathroom. The Venetian blinds were all bent at one end!. The linen, towels, crocks and cutlery were clean and the two bedroomed apartment had all mod cons and very convenient to all the places to visit. Easy to get to and park your car? A little bit of effort and this motel could be very good. A lick of paint would go a long way!

Room Tip: Until they make an effort to improve this motel, we wouldn't recommend it.

Stayed there on the way to Auckland! Only place available due to the long weekend!
I can understand why!
Not very clean & the bed is hard!
I stayed in a standard room, but it still cost me premium rate!
Only good thing it was walking distance to the town!
