I used to think this place was awesome when they first reopened but now their quality has plummeted. Took some friends here for brunch and ordered eggs benny with the sauce on the side. They smothered the entire dish with hollandaise and I asked them to redo it. They then merely rinsed the eggs and brought back the same dish with everything else soaked in hollandaise. That is completely unacceptable. I then cancelled the order because if the cook didn't have the right mind to think that he should have remade the dish, then he would have grudgingly made it at that point. Other guests at the table thought the meals were poor. The coffee was awful. Top it off, the muppet who checked us out acted like he was doing me a favour by not charging me for the benny that I cancelled. They didn't even comp their poor quality coffee. Completely disappointed because this is such a nice view and a great place to take friends and family, but the poor food and service is not worth it.

We were a group of four for lunch. The lunch/brunch menu choice was varied, with lots of choice. The wait staff were efficient and attentive without being annoying. The food was delicious and well presented. Everyone in the group was really pleased with their food.
However the mood in the restaurant was not peaceful. There was a very very loud band playing. They sounded as if they were practising for a low level student rockfest or worse. A jazz band, acoustic guitar or similar could have set the mood for eating lunch. Also, there were several children running through the restaurant, yelling, throwing darts/balls etc. They were also sitting and lounging all over the furniture in the entranceway, with drinks and belongings which did not create a welcoming atmosphere. It appears the children belonged to staff/owners/band?? and were definitely spoiling our lunch eating. I am not adverse to children ( in fact I work with them all day) but when I am paying for lunch, I expect peace and quiet or quality background music. If the owners could sort this out, then Okurukuru could be a great venue.

My daughter had her wedding reception here, and what a stunning place this is. the staff were great, and food super delicious. But this review will be on the restaurant that we visited a couple of days after the reception. The views are to die for, the outside deck area is wonderful and relaxing and the great menu and food does not disappoint. Hats off to this place, rarely does a restaurant put it all together so beautifully, but this one certainly does.

Wonderful setting and view. Friendly courteous staff, but oh toe food.
After an acceptable entre, the main course was little short of a disaster. We both ordered lamb fillets, which were presented like 2 sad sausages draped across the plate. They looked like they were bored. I asked the waiter to ask the cheff how he had cooked the lamb. The reply "Perfectly, as usual." Not good PR.

Excellent views of the coastline from the many window seats. Have been several times now over the last few months and really enjoyed each experience. The staff are welcoming and helpful and the food delicious. Chef, Danger, really makes the most of fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked tender meat. I have had the prawns entree a couple fo times and recommend it, also the pork main is devine, although the crackling is not like crackling I am used to, it's a little lacking in crackle. But aside from that, I will still order the pork again.
Staff are friendly and helpful. It is great to have a local restaurant that you can keep coming back to and enjoy trying out the menu.
Recommend Okurukuru for any visitors to the New Plymouth region as the stunning views, great food and wines are worth the 5 minute drive from town.
