We (two adults, one 2-year-old) stayed for four nights and had an enjoyable stay.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The reception desk is always staffed with knowledgeable women, who helped us with maps, taxis, shuttles, babysitters amongst other things.
We were in a standard room, and although the decor was a little dated, everything was very pleasant. Extra blankets and pillows were supplied, as was an ironing board, iron, hairdryer, and plenty of towels and facecloths. The soap and shampoo/conditioner were also of a good quality and didn't irritate my sensitive skin.
The beds were extremely comfortable and the sheets and bedding were good quality.
The pool and spa were a hit with our son; the pool is deep although has steps large enough for him to play on safely.
We didn't have dinner at the restaurant but enjoyed the full continental breakfast daily.
The hotels location is perfect. It's right next door to Countdown supermarket and a short walk to Cobb&Co, McDonalds and Burger Fuel.
It's within walking distance of TSB Stadium which was essential for us (alternatively it's a $6 or $7 taxi ride). We were also able to walk into town easily.
Always a bonus for parents, was the self-service washing machine and drier, for $2 each.
My partner also enjoyed the on-site gym.
All in all a great stay, with everything we required, we will be back!

I stay regularly at the Plymouth. A significant number of staff have been with the hotel for a long time. They are always friendly and professional. They also are grateful for feedback as to the quality of their service. I have found most of the rooms to be tidy and comfortable. The food is good altho it might be getting to the time to revisit the menu options. The gym is functional. Plenty of space to park your vehicle.

Bathroom very outdated with stains on walls and rusty screws in attachments.
Hairs in bath from previous guests.
Small and cramped toilet and bath area.
Horrid sliding door with no lock and inadequet ventilation.
Lots of dust behind bedside tables.
Remote on tv didn't work properly.
Dvd wasn't attached correctly.
Prices should be reduced or rooms improved

Room tip: check it over and if not happy ask to reduce rate or try another hotel. Will go somewhere else next time. I think $100-$150 was more the price not $210

My company have put me up here a few times. Whilst its a bit dated there isn't anything better in New Plymouth. You would hope that if the O&G industry booms someone will build a 4+ star hotel.

It's always been clean, staff are friendly and food is above average - but a few more healthy options would be good. Gym is adequate, location is good (given its a small town) and generally you get what you pay for.

Room tip: Pay extra for a suite

Staff go that extra mile. Room is a little dated but clean, homely, very comfortable beds and powerful showers.
We appreciated the table and chairs in the room as we had our dinner and two breakfasts via room service. "Light" Room service meals are a misnomer as the meals are very generous, we couldn't eat them all. $26 for two dinners and $30 for 2 breakfasts was very reasonable and no price gouging with the minibar either. And plenty of real milk, no UHT pottles!

A 10 minute walk to town but we went via the magnificent coastal walkway and ended up walking all the way to the port. A great base for exploring New Plymouth.
