We recently stayed three nights at The Waterfront. We found all the staff to be extremely pleasant and very professional from Front of House (especially Jo at Salt) to Reception to Housekeeping. We dined at Salt the first night and found the Restaurant to be very clean, very inviting and had that great view of the ocean, our steaks were cooked to our liking which was excellent and the Haggis was very nice. The second night we dined at Fredrick's, which is a block away and we both had a fantastic meal with great beer to match, would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a great kiwi meal. The only negative thing about the Waterfront would be that the Penthouse needs tongs as part of the cooking facilities, I cooked a meal on the last night and had to use a spatula to turn the yummy prawns, the only other thing I would warn travellers on is the noise from the trucks, this is not the hotels fault as they have installed thick glass to try and block this out but with the port just down the road this is where all the trucks are headed, really annoying and very noisy. This Hotel is a credit to Heather and her team, great location and I would recommend this to anyone.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear, but the Penthouse has the great sea view

Thank you very much for your comments regarding you stay with us recently.
We are very pleased you enjoyed the entire experience. We are very sorry about not having tongs in the room, we have now added these to the room. To address the noise we have just installed new noise reducing curtains and they have made an improvement.
We would love to host you again if you ever return to New Plymouth.
Best wishes The Waterfront Team.

We decided on a spur of the moment trip to New Plymouth on the way back to Wellington. What a wonderful town and such fantastic scenery.
This hotel was one that we found on the net and were not disappointed. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, the rooms exceptionally clean, tidy and well stocked with all the necessities for a comfortable stay. Our bathroom included a spa type bath and shower, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable.
Our rate included a cooked breakfast at their restaurant Salt and all I can say is that their Chef is a genius. We at dinner that night there too and it was a gastronomic experience. The breakfast was just as good and the wait staff were fantastic.
Another plus is that parking is available right at the hotel and is free for guests and they have an agreement with the local Aquatic center if you wish to take advantage of this. What a great 'add-on'.
There is a great little center directly across the road with a bakery, coffee shop and a few others, as well as the walkway promenade along the sea front.

Room Tip: The rooms directly overlooking Egmont Street are not the quietest, especially on a Friday night :)

I stayed one night for business. The room was lovely, comfy bed and there was even a little balcony which overlooked the carpark but also had a seaview. Had drinks in the restaurant and the service was top notch, really friendly and helpful staff. A great stay but the price reflects the seaside location.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Waterfront. The staff were friendly, the room clean and well appointed, and the location great. We managed to take advantage of a 10th Birthday Special which made the accommodation value for money, however at the normal rack rates would probably not have stayed. The only negative was the credit card charges on check-out. I booked via the hotels own website to avoid Booking Fees and also save the hotel third party commissions, however in hindsight it would have been cheaper to pay the Wotif booking fee than the credit card charges (1.5%-3%). Be sure to pay by cash or eftpos, not credit card.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us here at The Waterfront Hotel one our 10th birthday!
You are correct, they can be avoided if your bill is settled with cash or eftpos. Often if you call the hotel direct you can get a better deal than what is on the websites.
