“Paritutu Rock”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

This rock dominates the skyline at Port Taranaki and it is worth going to the top for the view. It overlooks a large chimney and the Sugar Loaf Islands. On a previous visit we had been up Mt Egmont in the morning & decided to have a swim on the other side of Paritutu Rock in the afternoon. One of my children climbed onto the island and looked over an outcrop and came face to face with a seal. I don't know who was the most surprised.
I have seen some lovely sunsets from Port Taranaki with Paritutu standing proudly in the sky so a night visit could be a bonus

“Excellent”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

Paritutu Rock is a great experience. It is more difficult to climb that what it appears but luckily that makes it less crowded. It is a great climb to stretch your muscles on the day after climbing mount Taranaki.

“One hour boat tour outstanding”
Reviewed 3 April 2014

We went out with local identity. Everyone knows Chaddy's Charters, and we would recommend this to visitors.
Chaddy's boat is a converted English lifeboat, and ideally suited for exploring the islands close up. Saw Mother seals with pups in rock pools. Absolutely loved it, and Chaddy really does give good value.

“Worth the climb but take care.”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

The shape of Paritutu Rock gives you some idea of what you are in for - a pretty steep climb! I did the climb on a fine day but would definitely not attempt it in a strong wind or on a wet day. Not for young kids. Anyone with moderate fitness should be able to make it up to the top, but once the stairs finish all you've got to help you up is a chain, which is (fortunately) well anchored into the ground. Personally I found the chained part of the climb a bit scary and in fact the lady ahead of me decided to stop and come back down. So just be careful and take it slowly. It was a bit of an adrenaline rush to make it up and the views at the top were sensational.

“Climb Mini Me Mt Taranaki”
Reviewed 28 February 2014

Paritutu Rock is at the Port side of New Plymouth. You can't miss it being a striking cone shaped rock. The climb up is fun with little challenges that make the whole experience rewarding. The views at the top are spectacular too. Recommend ice cream and drink purchases at the Coastal Walkway Pool - great serves and prices. The pool also has some big slides to experience.
