We stayed here after checking out the YHA first, finding it a dreary one (the rooms put us off, the shared space seemed nice) when we came here, it had the same cheery shared areas but some nicer rooms (mismatched double beds rather than the metal matching YHA ones).
We'd been told this place was good for budget travellers from the tourist information (who said they hadn't seen the YHA, so couldn't compare) we could and I'm sure both are nice, but opted for the Sunflower, meeting some nice people, questionable internet (worked fine in the evening, once it was working, but nothing in the morning, but then all NZ internet is sketchy at best!)
Otherwise had a good sleep. Heaters welcomed! Friendly staff, a little parking at the front, or lots just up the ramp on the road. Nice communal area and feel.
