we stayed at this motel thinking we would stay one or maybe two nights. we were greeted by Gary the friendliest man in NZ. We thought that the motel was new and that we were one of the first people to stay there. It is modern and so clean. We were very surprised to find that in fact the Motel is seven years old. The decor is lovely and sooooooo clean. Gary and his wife are so friendly and helpful. The location is great, with countdown supermarket on the pop. Side of the one way street. We stayed three nights and would have stayed longer if time had permitted. Highly recommend this venue. Well done Gary and your lovely wife. Love that you had liquid hand wash in the bathroom.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed here. A modern and very clean room, comfortable bed. Location is great! The first time we stayed here we noticed the road noise but the 2nd time it was pouring with rain so didn't hear a thing. Gary is fantastic, such wonderful customer service. Would stay here again no problem at all! Highly Recommend!

We spent three nights there over the womad 2012 weekend. Gary was very friendly and the unit was immaculately clean. The motel is located right on Courtenay Street, one of the busiest in New Plymouth and the continuous road noise doesn't make for a good nights sleep. "You should be alright with the window closed." was Gary's comment to my complaint. The motel is of a low, functional standard, as you would expect from a budget chain motel along motorways in Europe or America. It's fitted out in the cheapest possible way, not even providing enough towel rails for the two towels, no tissues (Supermarket across the street...), you have to reach over the top of the fridge door, because it opens towards the wall, etc.
It is well located and if you don't mind the street noise, sleeping with the window closed and the air con on, it is an option, but it doesn't follow, that the more expensive units are further away from the road and quieter. Car was covered in grime after parked there for 2 1/2 days. We certainly would not go back there.

Thanks for the review
In response I would like to point out the following.
We are centrally located, one of our strong features, as such our motel is built from solid concrete with double glazing and insulated doors to deaden any road noise.
I would like to point out that we are Qualmark rated as 4 star which indicates that the motel is fitted out to a very high standard. We are striving to achieve a 4.5 star rating.
All of our units of the same type are priced the same.
It seems reasonable to expect some sort of grime on a car that has travelled to New Plymouth and then left parked outside for 3 days

I had the pleasure of competing at the first NABBA Body Building Comp of 2012 in New Plymouth on 10-3-12, of which I won my Class, and am officially Ms Shape, Taranaki 2012.

My husband and I stayed at Abode on Courtenay in New Plymouth, which was the recommended accommodation for the Athletes.

Abode on Courtenay was a fantastic choice, great location, with friendly and helpful 'temp' managers.

The room was excellent, spacious, clean, fresh and tidy.

Whilst I did not get the room I requested I.e. with Spa Bath, our stay nonetheless was exceeded by good old fashioned and traditional Taranaki hospitality.

The location, so close to the Supermarket and within walking distance of everywhere I needed to be was a selling point for us.

Sincere thanks for a great stay and see you next year!

Room Tip: Check the night before you leave for your journey, that you have the room you requested, to avoid disappointment of Spa Bath.
