“Beyond excellent”

We stayed three nights. The house, the view, the standard of accommodation, the food and the very friendly hosts Rick & Linda were peerless. For a small boutique lodge, this really is as good as it gets and we certainly hope to return.

Room Tip: We had bedroom on first floor with great views (see photo)

Words cannot describe how great our time was at Acacia Cliffs with Rick and Linda. From the moment we walked up and were greeted, we felt so welcomed. The accommodations were comfortable and the view was fantastic. The food was unbelievable! All their recommendations were spot on. We cant wait to come back.

Last week my wife and I returned from New Zealand where we were pleased to spend 4 nights with Linda and Rick at Acacia Cliffs. It is hard to imagine a nicer place to stay when you are in Taupo. First, it is a beautiful lodge set on the hillside overlooking Taupo Lake. Our room had a grand view of the lake and Taupo. Everything appears to have been planned and selected to enhance the guests' experience.

Second, Linda and Rick are gracious hosts who give you the feeling you are visiting friends. They aren't simply proprietors. They also do a good job of bringing their guests together, for example, with wine and hors d'oevres before dinner which is an optional extra.

Third, the food is outstanding. The first night we arrived late in the afternoon; so we chose to eat dinner at the lodge. We ate there one other night simply because the food and the company were so good. It was like five-star dining in the home of friends. As a breakfast person, I was delighted with their homemade muesli, Eggs Benedict, and French press coffee. It is my pleasure to recommend Acacia Cliffs.

Hi FrankBSC

We certainly worked closely with our architect in the planning and building of the lodge to ensure not only the views but the comfort of our guests were carefully protected........glad you enjoyed and appreciated the results!

Having owned several restaurants in New Zealand, Rick now enjoys the opportunity to cook for our guests in a more intimate setting and we both look forward to spending time around the table if the opportunity presents itself to share a glass of wine and many a varied conversation.

Thanks for your positive comments and hopefully you may make it back this way again!

Kind Regards

We stayed 2 nights at Acacia Cliffs while travelling round New Zealand with friends. As every reviewer has said, the views are stunning. Ric and Linda are helpful hosts with tips and advice about the local area.
Bed was large and comfortable. Spacious common sitting areas both inside and out.
Ric's cooking is excellent, delicious although the evening meal we had was quite expensive given that it did not include wine. Breakfast was good. Linda was happy to give me extra milk for our prebreakfast coffee.
Enjoyed walking down steep hill to nearby beach where I could swim.
I certainly recommend this b&b to anyone especially if you like to have involved hosts.

With guests arriving from all over the world, Rick and I enjoy being able to offer some local knowledge on the many unique sights and activities this region has to offer.

It was great to see you enjoy swimming in the lake.....the largest freshwater lake in the southern hemisphere!

We offer a four course evening meal (excluding Wednesday and Sundays-chef's nights off). Rick designs the menu based on seasonal produce and guests preferences and we hope it is as much a dining experience rather than just 'a meal'.

The rate is advertised and guests have the option to either dine in or dine out and we are happy to make recommendations on Taupo's many restaurants.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us ...we appreciate your feedback.

If you can put up with Rick's torments about the All Blacks triumphs (and unless you are a kiwi, you will get this) then this is the place to stay in Taupo. It is more like staying in a friend's house than a hotel, the accommodation is spectacular and Rick's cooking is delicious. Well worth the money in my view.
However, the attractions of Taupo itself are limited, one day doing the lake, the falls and the geothermals and you're done. With so much to see and do in NZ, I would not stay more than 2 nights before moving on. You can do the Tongariro crossing from here, but it is quite a distance away.

Hi TeamBozer

We enjoyed your stay with us and as you have noted, Rick always loves the chance to engage in some friendly banter!

Rick and I and many (if not most) of our guests would disagree that "the attractions of Taupo are limited" and with guests staying on average three to four nights .....and some up to twelve..........we have had no difficulty filling an active itinerary.

If you sailed the lake on The Barbary, explored Orakei Korako, soaked in the Wairakei Terraces thermal pools.....two days would not be enough!

If you walked the Huka Falls track, played golf on our two international golf courses, fished with a guide in our world class rivers.....two days would not be enough!

If you took a heli flight or floatplane over our three towering volcanoes, walked the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, biked on one of our stunning mountain bike trails.....two days would not be enough!

If you bungy jumped, sky dived, jet boated, fished for freshwater prawns, swam in our pristine lake, enjoyed an in house massage, shopped till you dropped.....two days would not be enough!

Come back and we'll help you explore!

Kind Regards

A wonderful place to stay. We enjoyed our 2 nights at the Acacia Cliffs Lodge.
Linda and Rick are fantastic and we have appreciated their warm welcome.
We’ve also appreciated pre dinner moment to drink good wine , eat some “canapés” cooked by Rick and discuss with Linda and Rick.
The lodge and the room are clean , modern and confortable with an amazing view on Taupo lake.
Thanks Linda and Rich for the great stay in your lodge.

We stayed for two nights at this stunning lodge. The views are to die for and Rick's cooking combined with Linda's attention to detail make for a great stay. Linda made sure we knew all the options available to us within minutes of arriving and we filled our time in Taupo very happily with golf at Wairaki (lovely course), cruising on the lake and viewing the Falls. The international guests (from the US, England, Scotland, Sweden & NZ) made for great dinner table conversation.
