I would definately recommend staying at Acacia Cliffs Lodge.
A very stylish abode set overlooking Lake Taupo. The food, the hospitality and the accommodation were all top class.

My husband and I stayed here to relax for 2 days before catching up with family and friends.
Our room was very comfortable and well-appointed with a private balcony and fantastic views over Lake Taupo.
The Lodge is perfectly laid out for guests to enjoy the many common rooms of it.
The focal point is the kitchen annex sunroom and spacious balcony. We spent quite some time there with our fabulous hosts Linda and Rick. They made us feel welcome like longtime friends coming to stay.
For dinner guests have the option to dine in and I can highly recommend doing that at least one night you are there. Rick is a great chef; he will inquire about dietary requirements and then prepare a true feast.
We thoroughly enjoyed our very relaxing stay at Acacia Cliffs Lodge.

While travelling around NZ my boyfriend surprised me with a night at Acacia Cliffs Lodge and what a surprise it was. Everything about our stay was amazing. Linda and Rick are such warm and friendly hosts, they really made us feel so welcome.

Upon our arrival, Linda brewed fresh coffee for us and treated us to her delicious homemade chocolate biscuits. The complimentary bottle of wine in our minibar also went down well while sitting out on our balcony looking out over the lake.

Our room was superb with possibly the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The floor to ceiling windows gave us a fantastic view - needless to say, that night we slept with the curtains open.

I would definitely recommend this place and also advise to go for the option of dinner - Rick's cuisine is just superb! I long to go back there and spend another night - it really is a place that you just don't want to leave.

  • Liked — The views, our room, the bed, the food, I could go on and on...
  • Disliked — Absolutely nothing!

My wife and I recently stayed at the Acacia Cliffs Lodge for a birthday treat. We were traveling around NZ in a campervan and wanted somewhere unique, picturesque & 5* with the option of an evening meal (we have an 8 month baby who we were reluctant to leave with baby sitters).

It couldn't have proved more suitable, the lodge is fabulously located in the wooded hills overlooking Acacia Bay and beautifully designed/furnished by Rick and Linda who are the perfect hosts - warm & welcoming replete with a rich mine of local information and wonderful tales of their travels all over the world.

The 4 course meal was delicious and reflected Ricks many years of cheffing and restaurant experience. We can honestly say - hand on heart - that it was the best 24 hours of our 10 weeks of traveling around Oz & Nz (that included a number of luxury and boutique hotels).

We wish them the best of luck and hope to come back soon.

This place instantly shot to near the top of the list of our favourite places to stay. It's a modern stylish house with beautifully chosen furniture, lovely open rooms and amazing scenery. It has stunning views through giant glass windows over the lake and volcano. The rooms are luxurious, quiet and comfortable, with well designed bathrooms. Food is behind most of our trips, one way or another. The food was great - seriously tasty world cuisine lovingly cooked in front of you by a really skilled chef. It's brought alive by your hosts who combine these components with a warmth that makes you feel like you're visiting old friends. We chanced across this place online, looking for a haven after a long flight from the UK. After the shock of seeing the prices of most top end lodges in New Zealand, Acacia Cliffs Lodge was very reasonably priced, not far off a good boutique hotel in the UK, but much better looking than the other lodges we previewed (which often look stuck in 1976). This has a very Mr and Mrs Smith feel to it. It was so comfortable that, despite a wealth of stuff to see locally, we mostly just hung and played scrabble overlooking the lake as the weather rolled in and out, enjoying good company and utterly relaxing. Wish it was closer to London! Couldn't recommend it more.

  • Liked — The food, the views, our hosts and stylish surroundings
  • Disliked — Nothing to criticise - it was perfect
