“Beautiful view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2014 via mobile

We stayed in one of the two bedroom apartments for one night over Easter. The apartment had two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen (but could do with a couple of sharp knives!), patio, six seater dining suite, large tandem car garage and laundry. We found the bed to be extremely comfortable: not too soft or rock hard.

We absolutely loved the panoramic views over the lake and we wished the weather had been better so we could have seen the mountains.

Stayed in a studio with spa for 4 night.( with kitchenette)
Room a good size.
Bed was ok, except for ancient linen!
Had an adjoining door, which is great if you like listening to the neighbour's conversation, tv etc.
We were told that the room would be serviced, so servicing means not vacuuming the floor, not checking on milk supply and not restocking the 2 biscuits or filling up the pepper shaker, except with about 5 grains of pepper!
When we went to use the kitchen, there was 1 small saucepan with lid and old small frypan, one of the cereal bowls was chipped, and lucky we didn't both want a glass of wine as there was only 1 wine glass!!
I have never seen a set up like the kitchen.. One double power point so close to the sink, that cords crossed over the water in the sink.. Not sure of safety regs in NZ, but seemed extremely unsafe.
Enjoyed the side tables with the screwed down lamps on them, obviously the tables were lined up as the lamps were all on the left side with the cord to the wall, at the front of the table. Never seen anything like it!
Spoke to staff regarding the unkempt carpet, suggesting that he mention it to his housekeeper, and next thing our door is opened and the cleaner walks in! Not even a knock at the door, just barged in, lucky we went getting changed or....
I will not stay here again, although the spider in the bathroom enjoyed our visit, as he was still there when we left!
Be wary.

Stayed in a two bedroom apartment for three nights. Great views over Lake Taupo, close to shops restaurants and bars. Plenty of room and french doors opening onto a patio overlooking the lake.
The accommodation was clean and well appointed. Don't forget to visit Huka falls its spectacular.

We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom apartments for a weekend recently, outstanding spot, perfect for drinks around the outside table watching the sun go down! Highly recommend to all. This apartment was well equipped for travelers in either summer or winter as it was had plenty of space in the garage for ski gear.

We just spent a fab weekend here. We stayed in a one bed studio. It was very fresh, clean and comfortable. To say that it was just a few minutes walk to great bars and restaurants it was also very quiet. Located straight across from the lake and with staff that couldn't do enough to help I would say The Great Lake Motel is a winner.

On was on holiday with my mum in New Zealand and we had a long day travelling from Gisborne, we are fussy when it comes to cleanliness of a hotel and Great Lake did not disappoint.

Good location right across from Lake Taupo and close to the centre of town, we walked 3 minutes to the restaurant area where we chose one that suited our taste.

Our room was a twin room with a queen bed and single in one room it also had a small kitchenett, with fridge and a seperate bathroom.

We drove up and down the main road for about 30min trying 4 different hotel to find a clean, fair priced hotel and we finally got lucky.

Room Tip: Feel free to ask management to look at the rooms they have to offer on arrival before choosing.

We rented a 2 bedroom apartment sight unseen. Location in Taupo is great for the view and local walking. Beautiful lake with surrounding mountains can be seen from the living room and master bedroom. Lots of windows for cross breeze. In apt laundry washer and dryer a plus. Kitchen has plenty of dishes, glasses, etc. 3 bathrooms. One problem is road noise after 11 p.m. At night for sleep. One t.v. In living room. Raywyn (owner very nice.

Room Tip: Rooms in motel run sideways, might not be subject to road noise.
