Thank you for taking the time to write a review and we can confirm that because of our quiet rural location the only noise that you will hear at The Pillars Retreat is the birds as they wake up in the morning.
We did enjoy talking about France with you, although i speak some french it badly needs practise and during November we had several other guests from France so i was able to converse with them and improve.

We spent one night at the Pillars on our way back to Auckland Airport from Napier. We were warmly greeted by Gilly and Brian with tea and homemade scones. We were shown to a beautiful spacious bedroom with every home comfort. They recommended a French Bistro for dinner which was excellent. We were spoilt at breakfast with fruit salad, muesli, yoghurt and blueberry muffins all home made by Gilly. We had a long and most interesting chat about each other's travels and families. We so enjoyed the stay, the beautiful immaculate gardens and would love to go back.

Thank you for your informative review, which will help future guests get an idea about what they will experience here at The Pillars Retreat. Gilly enjoys baking and providing our guests with the freshest tastiest produce for them to sample. Our home grown stewed rhubarb and fresh eggs from our hens for breakfast have also proved very popular recently.

The Pillars, hosted by genial Kiwi couple Gilly and Brian, is certainly one of the very best B&B's that my wife and I have stayed at in our travels. Their home is spacious, beautifully, appointed, and immaculate in every respect, and it felt like we were being welcomed by old friends. Gilly is a wonderful cook, and Brian keeps the grounds as welcoming and manicured as a particularly visitor-friendly botanical garden. We were there for two nights and wished we could have stayed longer: our hosts went far out of their way to make us feel relaxed, comfortable, and welcome.

Our room was very large and beautifully furnished, heated through the floor for maximum comfort and even sensuality. Virtually every aspect of this establishment is top-drawer, inviting relaxation and even serenity. Without question this is one of the best lodging choices available.

We stayed in the pillars in january 2013. We loved the beautiful guest rooms. We had a living room and a big sleeping room for own use. The breakfast-buffet was delicious and we the hosts joined us. So we had a very interesting talk during our brunch.
Unfortunately we were to old to use the slide ;-)

From the moment we arrived at the Pillars, we felt at home. The owners, John & Ruth, directed us to the living room where we were provided warm hand towels to clean our hands, cookies and wine and water, while we relaxed and chatted after a long day on the road. Afterwards, we were given a tour of the home and taken to our Deluxe Suite, which is the most thought after room by honeymooners. In this enormous living area we had everything one could possibly need and some more. Our huge bedroom with an over sized king bed opened up to a balcony that overlooked the entire property. In the dressing room area there were white robes and slippers, a small fridge with water and a bottle of wine, on top of it there was a crispy clean linen cover with a plate with fresh fruits and cookies, a polished clean knife and linen napkins. Inside the bathroom there were fresh flowers, candles, a beautiful view from the bath tub to the back garden, and a very large counter with toiletries and plenty of space for two people at the same time. Everything bright, clean, spacious and comfortable.
The entire second floor has all four rooms with private balconies that open to their beautiful manicured garden, swimming pool and tennis court. Also, if you just want to either sit on the balcony or walk around the garden on simply rest inside one of many rooms downstairs, you may do so without being disturbed. Probably John will be working at his computer in his office and Ruth baking some break or cookies in their very large kitchen that also overlooks the entire garden.
The breakfast table had plenty room for 8+ people, with all the food displayed on a buffet. Breakfast consisted of several types of breads, jams, coffee, tea, fruits, fresh starwberries from their own garden and an omelet to die for, made freshly just as we came down from a much needed good night of sleep. John and Ruth had breakfast with us and we really enjoyed our conversation about New Zealand, overall economy, and similarities and differences between our countries. After breakfast they gave us tips of were to go and munch by the lake area.
We left "The Pillars" with a heavy heart. We loved the place and John and Ruth's company, wishing we had more days just to enjoy it even more.
This was the best and most beautiful B&B we've ever been to and we recommend it without any regrets.
