After extensive research--including reading previous posts here on TripAdvisor, my wife and I made the most excellent decision to book a stay at The Pillars.
What a lovely place! What a lovely couple!
John and Ruth could not have done more to make us feel welcome in their beautiful home--which they resurrected from disrepair and molded into a showplace of their own making. (I don't know if the attached photos do it justice). The rooms are comfortable and large; all the appointments are first-class.
John provided a strategy that enabled us to do the three things we most came to Taupo for: a boat ride on the lake, some quality time at a thermal pool and a jaunt to a Maori settlement (he suggested a cultural program with lunch rather than dinner at the Whakarewarewa Thermal Village in nearby Rotorua, which allowed the rest of our plan to be accomplished within two short days).
And they were too-short days, as well! Ruth is an excellent cook (her breakfasts are terrific) and both John and Ruth are just fun to talk with.
A greta place to stay!
