The beautiful setting for this extensive botanical collection in a native forest is delightful. There is a road about 2 km long up a hill and stopping at various gardens of botanical collections and also views of Taupo and Lake Taupo. We viewed it in Nov at the height of spring bloom for their impressive deciduous azalea collection and their colorful rhododendron walk with some large mature plants in full spectacular bloom. There were some labels on the wooden edges of the planting areas but not all plants were labeled. They have a good volunteer staff and have made and maintained the garden in an impressive condition. The volunteers need appreciation for their excellent efforts to maintain this community treasure.
