I recently stayed with Angie and Garth for four nights, while in Taupo for Ironman New Zealand. I couldn't have asked for a better stay. Peaceful, beautiful room. Close enough to Taupo, five minutes by car, but far enough away to be restful. Highly recommended. I'll certainly go back.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great.

My husband and I recently stayed at Whakaipo Lodge for two nights, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The lodge is stunning and cozy at the same time. You feel right at home with Angie and Garth's (the hosts) warmth, and Angie's homemade cooking is to die for. They are both very knowledgeable or the area, and they can give you lots of information depending on what your objective is. We are outdoor enthusiasts, so they gave us some tips on some of New Zealand's greatest hikes. We were also able to do some stargazing, which was refreshing to see such a clear sky away from the city lights! The suite was very spacious, and they even had a towel rack that heats the towels (a definite highlight for my husband). You have your own outdoor patio if you want to sit outside and sip wine or enjoy a book. Very close to the town of Taupo and easy to navigate. You must stay here if you're in the area, it is like a serene retreat.

Staying at ‘Whakaipo Lodge’ was such an enjoyable time. My husband and I were on our 2nd anniversary and Angie & Garth made such an effort to make our stay so memorable.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted and waited on. Everything was effortlessly provided which made us feel pampered and relaxed. Just what we needed when we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and having a well needed break away from crazy family/children life ☺ We only wished it was for longer!!
I was really impressed with everything about our stay at Whakaipo Lodge – from the beautiful suite through to the amazing dinners, breakfasts, wines, afternoon teas and picturesque scenery. But above all, was how welcomed and taken care of we were. Superb hosts!
I would totally recommend Whakaipo Lodge to any local or international traveller. A truly exceptional accommodation and dining experience.

Room Tip: Brilliant accommodation all round - sorry no pool tho! Amazing shower pressure tho! And who needs...

We enjoyed four nights in this lovely lodge, two each on the way to and returning from Wellington on a driving trip. It is about 5 minutes drive out of the town of Taupo. Our suite was spacious, beautiful and luxurious, with a bathroom, dressing room, mini fridge, mini safe, iron/board, desk/chair, small sofa, tv etc and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in (with beautiful linens as well). The suite was at one end of the lodge and overlooked the pretty garden (with bifold glass doors) and was quiet at night.
Garth and Angie were perfect hosts and very helpful in recommending activities to suit us - my husband went for a few bike rides to the nearby bay on one of their cycles, and we even ended up taking a helicopter ride around the local volcanoes, which was able to collect us from the lawned area behind the lodge! That was a thrill!
The breakfasts, and the evening nibbles and drinks and conversations with our hosts were pretty special too. All in all an experience way above a hotel experience. Thank you Garth and Angie.

We wanted to spend some quiet time together after a very busy year. It also happened to be our Wedding Anniversary. We were greeted as royals, wonderful hosts, warm and chatty and a location that makes you feel at ease. The accommodation is spacious, with the luxury touch, and blends into the character of the Lodge.
Garth and Angie are wonderful hosts, will ensure the your time is yours, and whatever they can do to enhance your visit is no obstacle.
We have stayed in many small boutique hotels around the world, and Whakaipo Lodge is up with the best, with its own relaxed style and surroundings

We only had one night booked at Whakaipo Lodge due to a busy itinerary, but we wished it could have been more. Garth and Angie, the hosts, provide a wonderful reception and could not have been more helpful or hospitable. Their personal level of service and attention obviously comes from their own extensive travel experience and marked out Whakaipo Lodge as one of the main highlights of our NZ tour. The accommodation is thoughtfully and tastefully presented and supremely comfortable with subtle and appreciated small touches. We can be extremely fussy travellers, but Whakaipo Lodge came up trumps in every respect. Highly recommended.

Thank you so much for your review. So many of our guests tell us they wish they had stayed longer! Taupo is a gem of a place to visit and was the winner of one of Trip Advisor's Travellers Choice Destination Awards for 2013. We strongly recommend visitors base themselves in Taupo for several days to take advantage of our thermal valleys, beautiful lake location and proximity to the stunning Dual World Heritage Tongariro National Park.

We stayed at this lodge at the Ruapehu suite for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were welcome more like friends rather than paying guests which separate this place from other bed and breakfast accommodations. The suites were luxuriously decorated and very spacious with everything one needs for a perfect stay. Garth and Angie are naturally perfect hosts.
Garth's coffee and Angie's cooking added to the pleasure of our stay. There seemed to be nothing she can't bake or cook!! If you get the chance, do stay in for dinner - good value for money and it was more like enjoying dinner with your friends.

Room Tip: Both the suites are equally gorgeous, spacious and luxuriously furnished. It will be hard to choose...
