Angie and Garth make you feel at home from the second you arrive. They had wonderful food, provided beautiful clean accommodations, and engaged in thoughtful conversations. They even offered to do some wash for us…..as we were traveling 3 weeks on a one week supply of clothes.
I would go back here in a heartbeat. We hope you too are able to enjoy this HOME AWAY FROM HOME if you are ever in this area traveling.

I recently stayed with Angie and Garth for four nights, while in Taupo for Ironman New Zealand. I couldn't have asked for a better stay. Peaceful, beautiful room. Close enough to Taupo, five minutes by car, but far enough away to be restful. Highly recommended. I'll certainly go back.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great.

My husband and I recently stayed at Whakaipo Lodge for two nights, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The lodge is stunning and cozy at the same time. You feel right at home with Angie and Garth's (the hosts) warmth, and Angie's homemade cooking is to die for. They are both very knowledgeable or the area, and they can give you lots of information depending on what your objective is. We are outdoor enthusiasts, so they gave us some tips on some of New Zealand's greatest hikes. We were also able to do some stargazing, which was refreshing to see such a clear sky away from the city lights! The suite was very spacious, and they even had a towel rack that heats the towels (a definite highlight for my husband). You have your own outdoor patio if you want to sit outside and sip wine or enjoy a book. Very close to the town of Taupo and easy to navigate. You must stay here if you're in the area, it is like a serene retreat.

Staying at ‘Whakaipo Lodge’ was such an enjoyable time. My husband and I were on our 2nd anniversary and Angie & Garth made such an effort to make our stay so memorable.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted and waited on. Everything was effortlessly provided which made us feel pampered and relaxed. Just what we needed when we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and having a well needed break away from crazy family/children life ☺ We only wished it was for longer!!
I was really impressed with everything about our stay at Whakaipo Lodge – from the beautiful suite through to the amazing dinners, breakfasts, wines, afternoon teas and picturesque scenery. But above all, was how welcomed and taken care of we were. Superb hosts!
I would totally recommend Whakaipo Lodge to any local or international traveller. A truly exceptional accommodation and dining experience.

Room Tip: Brilliant accommodation all round - sorry no pool tho! Amazing shower pressure tho! And who needs a pool when you have the beautiful Taupo lake down the road :)

We enjoyed four nights in this lovely lodge, two each on the way to and returning from Wellington on a driving trip. It is about 5 minutes drive out of the town of Taupo. Our suite was spacious, beautiful and luxurious, with a bathroom, dressing room, mini fridge, mini safe, iron/board, desk/chair, small sofa, tv etc and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in (with beautiful linens as well). The suite was at one end of the lodge and overlooked the pretty garden (with bifold glass doors) and was quiet at night.
Garth and Angie were perfect hosts and very helpful in recommending activities to suit us - my husband went for a few bike rides to the nearby bay on one of their cycles, and we even ended up taking a helicopter ride around the local volcanoes, which was able to collect us from the lawned area behind the lodge! That was a thrill!
The breakfasts, and the evening nibbles and drinks and conversations with our hosts were pretty special too. All in all an experience way above a hotel experience. Thank you Garth and Angie.
