On honeymoon, what more could you ask for, than being greeted by efficient, warm and friendly staff.

Our thanks to Becks, Blaine and Nadia for helping two wiery travellers out and upgrading our room! At 6'7" tall this is the only shower my husband has been able to fit under so far on our trip.

Special mention thanks to Shane the superb chef at Bistro Lago for a luscious meal, right up there with the very best gourmet meals Sydney, Auckland, New Zealand has to offer, utterly outstanding and superb value.

We stayed in the Hilton last week. We got dropped off by our tour guide for the evening. Location was perfect and the large three bedroom apartment was beautiful and spotless. We went next door to the thermal pools for an hour. Hotel is not affiliated with the Spa but there is a discount for all hotel guests. We had dinner at the hotel dining room and it was wonderful. The menu was varied and the room was lovely. Restauarant was booked and we luckily had the hotel prebook for us a couple of weeks before we came. Only negative is that there is no free wifi anywhere in the hotel. A perfect overnight stay. Lastly, the front desk staff was very helpful.

We stayed at both Hilton locations in New Zealand, Lake Taupo and Auckland. The Taupo location was our favorite.
1. I made a fatal travel error when we checked in, the front desk staff was so courteous and helpful. They made a mistake into a great situation. We had to stay an extra day in taupo and I am very glad we did.
2. We had a one bedroom suite. This was the highest quality Hilton room I have been in (and I am a diamond member, so I have seen my fair share). The kitchen was immaculate and had all of the amenities. We also planned to do laundry while on vacation and to our extreme excitement there was a washer and dryer in our suite!
3. We used the concierge to book our Tongariro Alpine Crossing bus and to pack us a lunch. AS A SIDE NOTE the crossing is quite difficult but totally worth it so start hiking now to prepare.
4. We ate at the hotel restaurant and had the best meal in NZ there.. the service was amazing.
5. some have commented that the hotel is not close to the city center of taupo. we did not find this to be a draw back. There is a hotel shuttle for those that like to drink.
6. We did some of the local lake activities like sailing and visit huka falls .. which were both enjoyable.
7. We used the lake taupo hotel as a hub and drove out to the glow worm caves and around the country side.
8. The spa and pool were good sized. The spa temp was perfect, not too hot. They also have a sauna and steam room.

Although the bedrooms are large the outlook was very average - for us on the ground floor we were looking at a sterile swimming pool. The meeting rooms are nice and interesting.

The room rate is reasonable but the extra's are excessive ie $10 to park your car under the hotel (this is Taupo: not Auckland!). The wine list in the restaurant are very very over-priced ($70) and service in the restaurant was extremely slow.

By far the nicest hotel in Lake Taupo. Set upon a high hill, it has spectacular views of the lake.

The 3 bedroom apt is a good deal as it has a full kitchen, including dishes, dishwasher, fridge, stove, microwave and washer/dryer. Had balconies on both sides offering stunning views.

Restaurant/bar is wonderful and the chef is excellent & creative. Menu is diverse and very good.

Stayed there for Ironman New Zealand and they were very cool allowing us to keep our bikes in our rooms.

Service was great and would highly recommend. Rooms were very modern and contemporary. Our bathroom floor even had a heater in it.

All rooms had great views. Perfect for a family or people traveling together. Would highly recommend this hotel. We will stay here again.

We stay here as part of our short trip to NZ recently. This hotel is a bit further out from the lake front where most other motels/hotels and restaurants/shops were situated...so make sure you have some sort of transportation. Hotel was nice and clean, we stayed in a king relaxation suite so it was nice and spacious. Bathroom was modern and clean, shower has water coming from ceiling! Downside- no views, and not very personal service. Seem to charge for everything...we paid for complete breakfast package which was a bit pricey and just included premade coffees. Had to pay extra for cappucinos. No free secure parking available.

The Hilton Lake Taupo was one of our top three favorites out of the 13 places we stayed in all of New Zealand . It was so nice to have a room with air conditioning and soft pillows. It seemed all of New Zealand loves huge, hard pillows. I could not wait to get to the Hilton to take advantage of their pillow menu. We had the best sleep of our entire vacation here. Having air conditioning, while not usually needed, was a nice amenity to have when time to go to sleep.

We used Hilton points to stay for free. We were given a standard room on the first floor near the pool and it was very nice. The rooms are HUGE to include the bathrooms! We could have upgraded to a lake/mountain view room, for $45 US a night but opted to stay with the standard. They have free parking in certain areas around the hotel some of which are right next to the hotel.

The staff was warm, friendly and went above and beyond in service. They coordinated transportation for us to the Tongariro Crossing hike (AMAZING!). One of the staff even let us borrow one of their personal daypacks for the hike. We arrived in Taupo after the stores had closed and our pack had been stolen when our car was broken in to in Kaikoura earlier on our trip. Helpful hint: always keep your doors locked and take everything out of your vehicle.

The restaurant Bistro Lago was the 2nd best dining experience behind Kauri cliffs. The food was exceptional!! My husband had the chocolate fondant for dessert and it was perfect. The views of the lake and Mt. Taranaki from the restaurant are gorgeous especially as the sunsets.

Taupo Thai is a great choice for lunch if you want something different.

Overall, highly recommend a stay at the Hilton if you want a great night’s sleep, excellent staff and an amazing meal.
