“Relaxing in luxury”
Reviewed 21 September 2011

My husband I recently stayed at the Hilton Lake Taupo whilst traveling through New Zealand. When booking online I indicated that we were celebrating an anniversary and was delighted to find that we have been upgraded to a one bedroom apartment on the top flood on arrival.

Our room was spacious and very well furnished, with spectacular views over Lake Taupo. We were lucky enough to catch a couple of great sunsets. It was also a bonus to find that the room has washing/drying facilities as we were on the road for a week and this came in very handy.

The pool was lovely, I liked the sleek modern design. Great to sit in the spa at the end of the day.

Thanks again for a lovely stay.

Dear Leia_19 ,

Congratulations once again on your anniversary and thank you for choosing to celebrate at Hilton Lake Taupo.

It is a delight to read that we exceeded your expectations and were able to recognise your anniversary. We have enjoyed some stunning sunsets recently as we head from winter into spring, our view over Great Lake Taupo towards the mountains in the distance make this even more special.

We look forward to welcoming you back again in the future, possibly on another anniversary or special occaision.

Kind regards,

Clinton Farley

We had a wonderful two-night stay at the Hilton Lake Taupo during our January trip to New Zealand. Our original plans had not included a stop in this great town, with the largest lake in New Zealand. We discovered there was a Hilton property there when staying at the Hilton in Auckland and decided to give it a try. It certainly did not disappoint. We had a lovely room on the first floor with a walk-out patio right across from the pool. The pool itself is something to behold as it appears to fall right off down the hill it sits on. It is heated and decent enough size to allow children and adults to share. The fitness room is on one side of it allowing for great views of the pool, hotel, and greenery around the property as you work out. We had a great meal at their restaurant. While the food and drinks were great, the service was wonderful. Our waiter was not only properly attentive but with a sense of humor to boot. We watched him also very tactifully handle a rude American group (I'm also American so was extra embarassed) who thought they were the be-all end-all. While not in the least bothersome, do be aware that the property includes some residential and/or vacation units that are owned/leased. We can see why, as the property is in a great location in a lovely lake town, we'd love to go back!

Room Tip: While we loved our room, we were on the pool side, the views from the other side, the road side, are...

I spent a few afternoons having a bite to eat and a few drinks at the Bistro Lago connected to the Hilton and the service was excellent. There was excellent rapport between the manager and the customers, and everybody was treated with respect. The service was quick and there were no mistakes.

I can't speak for the rooms themselves, but the relaxing atmosphere of the bar area in the restaurant and the great service definitely deserve high marks.

We stayed one night at the Hilton Lake Taupo. From the minute we walked into reception we were made to feel very welcome. Check-in was very prompt, we had opted for an online upgrade to an apartment and we were not disappointed. Our apartment was on the top floor and it was very spacious and perfectly clean. The decor was very pleasant and the layout worked really well. We had moved rooms as the previous room did not have the bedding configuration we had originally asked for, but the move was made very quickly and without fuss, and staff were very obliging. We had two meals at the Bistro Lago restaurant and the food (and wine) was outstanding. The only comment we would make re. the restaurant was the maitre d' (or restaurant manager) was stomping around in some high heeled boots (quite noisy on the wooden floor) and was quite abrasive. Other staff were very friendly and attentive, and the experience as a whole was amazing. Will definitely be back and will recommend to others. Thanks Hilton Lake Taupo :)

Room Tip: top floor apartment

We booked here as our 'extravigant' night on a recent car trip of the North Island. Its a nice place. We received a good rate, but 5 star it is not! No porters, the parking was exhorbitantly expensive or we could park on a cut up bit of lawn (so we did). The apartment room was an apartment indeed, complete with prominent ads asking us to buy it! Tacky. Location is away from the town centre and the lake, up in the suburbs, so nothing special there. Really disapointing!

Room Tip: Stay somewhere with better atmosphere

Dear FlyingJOHN_10,

Thank you for taking the time to post feedback following your stay with us in April.

Your observations and opinions are very much appreciated as they enable us to assess the standard of our facilities and services and monitor if we are meeting guests needs and expectations. I am sorry to hear that our porter was not at hand when you arrived.

Our contemporary, stylishly designed apartments are fully self contained and offer sweeping views across Lake Taupo. While the hotel is a short 7-minute stroll to the waterfront walking track and only 5-minutes by vehicle to town, we are pleased to offer panoramic lake views, a benefit of not being town centre with bay views.

I am sorry that we did not meet your personal expectations and would like the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to share with you the high level of personal service we pride ourselves on.

Sincerely,

Clinton Farley

The Hilton In Taupo really is a 5 star place to stay.We were impressed by the service and by the room.We were in room 11 which is in the historical hotel building. To use the phrase "recently refurbished" really just isn't a fair description. I'd honestly say the entire room was removed and a brand new room built in its place.
We had dinner downstairs in Lago which was fantastic. We requested simply that the chef gave us his favorite meals. Now I've had beef wellington before but nothing as nice as what they served us.
In essence the stay was brief but we were extremely happy with the hotel its staff and amenities
Incidently if heading down from auckland the easy way to get to the hotel is to take the new deviation road south and turn right at the napier/toupo road.It saves about 15 minutes

Dear kazbanz,

It was a delight reading your review on the hotel. I am pleased to hear both our team and accommodation exceeded your expectations.

It is our aim to ensure every guests' experience is a unique and personalised one. I am glad that your enjoyed your residence in our Heritage Building, now 122 years old. The Heritage building was updated in October 2009 and maintains Heritage Character as well as a modern spin to fit in with our newer Mountain Wing.

It is pleasing to read that your experience in Bistro Lago was thoroughly enjoyed and your request for "Chefs Recommendation" was a sumptuous dining journey. Simon Gault and his Head Chef Jason Lewis will be pleased to receive this feedback.

Thank you for mentioning the new ETA (East Taupo Arterial), indeed it is quicker to travel up this at the Wairakei intersection to the hotel and by-pass town, to the hotel. The ETA also provides easy access from the airport, within 5-minutes.

We look forward to welcoming you back for another special escape in the near future.

Sincerely,

Clinton Farley
