“A Slice of Texas in Taupo”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

This impressive, architecturally-designed, home has the feel of a grand lodge but with the coziness of an intimate B&B. Our comfortable bedroom was completely self contained with access to a kitchen and the view of the old Tauhara volcano was a constant reminder of the beauty of the area. Drinks and nibbles at sunset were not to be missed with our host Becky who, with Texan charm, made sure our slightest whim was attended to. The lodge is slightly out of the way and access to a car is a must.

My wife and I were in New Zealand in early March 2014. We, from time to time, have stayed in B&B's when traveling. We've found this to be an interesting experience but with mixed results with respect to quality. Tauhara Sunrise Lodge is a real "find". It was a delightful experience. The accommodations are outstanding. The owners/managers are delightful. The house faces Lake Taupo with a deck with a beautiful view. Each evening we had cocktails on the deck with the owners and other guests, an experience we very much enjoyed. In the morning a delicious breakfast was served and we had a discussion with the owners of the places in the area we might be interested in visiting. Overall it was a 5 Star experience.

Becky & Rob have a lovely home with very comfortable guest accommodation and wonderful views over Lake Taupo. With their very kind and generous hospitality this comes highly recommended.
Acacia Bay is slightly out of town however there is a great local restaurant.

The only mistake we made was not staying at Tauhara Sunrise longer. We have stayed in many B&Bs but this ranks as one of the best. Becky is an exceptional host and we couldn't have been looked after any better. Excellent variety of breakfasts and perfectly prepared. Happy hour at six is not to be missed and wherever we went during the day we made sure we were back for happy hour. If you are looking to stay in Taupo you will be sorry if you don't stay with Becky, it is a six star experience.

A delightful place to stay overlooking Lake Taupo but actually in the quieter surroundings of Acacia Bay. Very convenient for all the local attractions. Wonderful views from our charming room which was extremely luxurious with a large shower room, plenty of fluffy towels and lovely toiletries. Becky was a fanatastic hostess - cooking delicious breakfasts, preparing canapes at drinks time plus was a "fountain of knowledge" on where to go and what to do in the area. One of the accomodation highlights of our recent trip to the North Island - truly memorable!

We stayed in this delightful lodge with extensive views over Lake Taupo for two nights. So warmly welcomed by Becky and Rob - nothing was too much trouble. Wonderful breakfasts were served in the spacious dining room - we were offered simply anything we wanted - and at night we lay in our vast and very comfortable bed and looked right across the lake to the twinkling lights of Taupo town. A beautiful en-suite bedroom with full serve- yourself coffee, tea or wine in a special adjacent guest kitchen This lodge is a great find and a really beautiful property which gave us very great pleasure and the warmth and interest of our hosts was very special. Thank you Becky and Rob.

Becky and Rob have created a very nice environment at the Tauhara Sunrise.

My wife and I spent 2 nights of our honeymoon there and loved it. Some bullet points:
- Gorgeous Lake Views
- Market and Restaurant ~5-10 walk away
- Hot Tub with robes, extra towels (on huge balcony)
- Warm, Genuine Hospitality
- Great balance of interaction and privacy
- Nice sized room (we had the Queen Room with Lake view and a large bathroom/closet
- Very relaxing, open public spaces (including balcony, sitting room)

To give you an idea of Becky's Southern Hospitality: my wife and I had to be at the Taupo Airport at some ridiculous hour (I think 615am to drop off rental car) and Becky still got up to offer us a full breakfast and continental breakfast - even though she was under the weather.

When we go back to Taupo, we will be staying here - and we will be telling our friends about it.

One note - if you are hoping to be "downtown" and stay in a busier area, this is about a 45 minute walk to town (according to Becky). We generally like places "in town," but liked Tauhara so much that we actually ordered takeout (Gluten Free Pizza from The Bay Bar & Brasserie) and just enjoyed it at the B&B!

Thanks Becky & Rob!
