This B&B was probably the best place we stayed during our New Zealand trip and that is saying something as we enjoyed every place we stayed! Part of the reason the stay was so enjoyable was our hosts, Pat and Russ. They are such a wonderful friendly couple who clearly like people and enjoy what they do! Pat fixed the most delicious breakfasts and we enjoyed our conversations with Pat and Russ every morning. We were only there for 2 nights but we could have stayed much longer. All of the reviews of this wonderful B&B are spot on! Thanks again Pat and Russ for such wonderful memories :-)

My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights with his son and wife for the men to go fishing. We could not have been more thrilled with Ambleside. Pat and Russ are the perfect hosts and looked after us as if we are family. Pat has thought of everything from the way the rooms are planned down to the last detail for comfort and ease of living. She knows exactly what travellers need from making sure their washing is done (dried and folded beautifully!), to providing the tastiest titbits of delicious baking on top of excellent breakfasts. She welcomed us in our wet walking clothes, takes it all to dry and urged us into the thermal pool to relax. We even got a bottle of wine in the pool to reward us for completing the Tongariro Crossing! We felt really cared for here and all of us in the party felt the same. A gem of a place so don't go anywhere else.

Room Tip: Both rooms excellent, one with ensuite and the other just over the corridor, but that one has the do...

My girlfriend and I stayed at Ambleside on 1st September and it's definitely a best experience you can have! Russ and Pat are two coolest persons you can ever meet in your life! They are super friendly and very willing to share their stories! Besides the truly amazing hospitality, the place is phenomenal. The room we stayed at was super clean, and was equipped with everything that we needed! It felt like we found home in Taupo! The only thing that I didn't like about our stay was that we arrived too late! It would be so amazing if I could have more time to spend with Pat and Russ and to enjoy the geothermal pool! Since everything was so perfect, we had a wonderful night sleep, and the amazing-ness didn't end! The next morning we had some really good breakfast and spent some quality time chatting about life and traveling! Ambleside is definitely a highlight of our trip to New Zealand and if you are reading this, I really hope you have the chance to enjoy what I have enjoyed.

Russ and Pat are a truly an amazing couple who welcome you into their home as if you have been friends for years. By the time you leave you will feel as if you have been.

It starts with afternoon tea (Pat is a phenomenal baker) and can progress to more stimulating drinks and nibbles on the terrace in front of their home. The room, well more like rooms, we had was gloriously comfortable and has a lovely terrace overlooking the lake. (The sunsets were pretty special). Breakfast is generous, varied and quite scumptious.

Pat and Russ are very good at making suggestions for activities quite simply great company. Three nights not nearly enough. We'll be back.

We'd hardly got out of the car before Pat and Russ were there to welcome us and help with luggage! They really made you feel so welcome with their attention to detail and genuine interest in what we wanted to see in NZ and good helpful advise on interesting places to experience in Taupo. Room was very comfortable and had great views out over Lake Taupo. Breakfast were excellent - makes such a difference when that is right as it really sets you up for the day! Having felt like travellers rather than mere tourists in NZ it was quite humbling to see on a huge map just how much of the UK that Russ & Pat had been to on their visit there..... but lots to talk about!

What a special bed and breakfast this is; we stayed four days (first, just for one night then we returned for a further three before motoring up to Auckland). We were made to feel treasured guests by Pat and Russ, nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were very comfortable, the breakfasts great and the extra homemade goodies lovely. All the places recommended by Pat and Russ to visit were also very good.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Ambleside B&B very highly.

From the moment Pat welcomed us in the driveway, until our fond farewell following our two nights' stay, we were immersed in the fabulous ambience and atmosphere that is Ambleside. We cannot write glowingly enough of the overall hospitality afforded to us by these most experienced hosts, Pat and Russ; from the time spent with us planning our sightseeing, the welcoming afternoon tea, drinks before dinner, sumptuous breakfasts (the best in the North Island!) and of course the immaculate facilities. This B&B is indeed up there with the best! Thank-you Pat & Russ, for making us feel like old friends.
