It was like being invited out on a private family outing. We were just a part of the crew, as involved or uninvolved as we wanted to be in the day's work and activities. We decided to sail over to Mayor Island, which is stunning and being restored to be even more so (replanted and rid of non-native species) -- we want go back there and stay in the beach cabins (no services, bring your own food, take out everything you bring) next year, and will hire South Sea Sailing to drop us off and pick us up. Simon has some wonderful stories about where he's gone (all over the South Seas) in his catamaran, and some of his hair-raising adventures. He's a fascinating and gracious host. If you go, you'll probably see dolphins, but this isn't another dolphin-chasing cruise, it's a collaboration, a day doing whatever you want, an intimate sailing experience that will make you part of Simon's 'family'. Bring your own food, and Simon provides great coffee and tea.
