This walk circumvents the Waikareao Estuary with a Maori burial island in the middle called Motuapai. From walking beside Takitimu Highway to the judea boardwalk taking in mangroves, pukeko birds, flax bushes, then through a small cultivated bush onto the beach and out at sulphur point. The odd information board which have been vandalised. Got to watch out for cyclist who share the walk as well. It's all flat walking with a variety of urban, sea, mangroves and bush.

It is a nice place with flat board walk and scenery. It has never been crowed and the open space just makes me feel humbled as a human who share and enjoy the space along with other little creatures and plants.

We are holidaying at Mt Maunganui and I have cycled from the Mount and around the Estuary walkway cycleway several times. Well maintained track, and lots to see on the way.

Take the Maxwell st entry some walking shoes and stroll on off.
This is a lovely walk along the estuary- on a path (so no getting wet)
Watch the traffic and life zip on by over the otherside of the water, and relax on your walk with the birds and sea life.
A nicely treed walk with a section being dedicated bush
No issues about terrain and it is flat!

A fantastic place for a walk; whether you do the whole 10kilometres (about 1.5 hours) or just a section of it. Stop for a coffee or a meal at Central Trades Park on Chapel Street along the way. The Daisy Hardwick Walkway on the Otumoetai side includes a great little bush walk.
