Other reviewers seem hugely disappointed but we really enjoyed Halo's breakfast buffet and we're normally anti-buffet food-snobs. What a super start to Sunday morning with stunning views, crisp white linen and warm banana bread all housed within a smart classic-modern dining room and cared for by friendly professional staff. Granted the fried components weren't up to winning any Michelin stars but the yoghurt and fruit/nut loaves were delish (and trim milk came as standard). Thanks Halo.

Something has changed at this restaurant from our last visit. I suspect a new chef, or perhaps the kitchen was having an off night?

I don't think cold a raw fish dish makes for a popular amuse bouche on a winters night! I saw many of these going untouched at other tables.

Every dish was under-seasoned, i thought the days were the chef used no salt in the preparation were long gone? The meals were decidedly bland, even the nice bowl of chips were unsalted!

Excellent service though.

Halo offers high (over) priced tiny plates of fancy, yet insipid food in a characterless, echo-filled concrete box (they call it "minimalist" - I call it boring). If you want to be bored stiff and spend a heap of money to stay hungry, then Halo might be for you. For my money, there are numerous better restaurants in Tauranga.

I stay at the hotel frequently and I tend go eat the restaurant a lot. The food is very tasty and portions are ample. Not so much variety though. Hence you can eat here one or twice but I wouldn't suggest anything more than that as I don't think they even change their menu!

It's a shame as the service is excellent and the restaurant itself has a wonderful location. Ambience is great as well.

Went for lunch with my husband and friends. Told on booking that on that day was our 40th wedding anniversary and was told that that would be passed on to restaurant. No mention when turned up. I mentioned again to waitstaff when asked and nothing. We stayed and had extra drink at the time of our wedding - still nothing. Another restaurant we went to the following weekend in Taupo went the extra mile for us. Very disappointed. Will go again but only because I have entertainment book.
