“Loved it!”

Excellent place to stay and great location in walking distance to main street, shops, and restaurants.

We stayed in the upper room that has the small patio and spa. It's definitely worth a few more bucks to upgrade to that room.

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, the room was very clean and comfortable, cool design too.

Gourmet Stay is in the heart of Wellington, close to everything. The rooms are clean, warm and comfy. There's a great little cafe downstairs with lovely home-made food. The owners are welcoming and helpful.

I just returned from a long weekend in Wellington with my husband to celebrate my birthday. We chose Gourmet Stay because of its positive reviews and location, and the niftyness of being on top of a cafe (a huge plus in my husband's eyes). The beds are comfortable, even the smaller room is plenty big enough, the decor is modern and attractive. Everything met our expectations and more.

We had an issue on our second night with neighbors partying. The staff was prompt in asking them to quiet down, and couldn't have been more gracious and apologetic. It obviously wasn't their fault. Regardless, they upgraded our room for the final night. I feel the customer service here was bar-none. Anyone concerned about checking in and out at the cafe counter shouldn't worry. It's quick and easy, and that way you don't forget to grab a treat on the way out!

Room Tip: Like in any boutique hotel, the top floor is probably the quietest room (no squeaky floor boards). R...

I really enjoyed my five day stay in this great little boutique hotel.
The rooms are nice and warm and very comfortable. The location is good, a short walk from Cuba street, plenty of great bars and food spots nearby and a fabulous speciality food store ( Moore Wilsons) around the corner. And the little cafe ( Frederick st cafe) at the bottom of the stairs makes a fantastic breakfast.
The staff are friendly and very helpful but not obtrusive. And the wifi is free. There is also a washer dryer that can be used for $5 per load.
I didn't find the shared bathroom a problem and never actually saw any of my neighbours ( you share with one or two other rooms). You do hear a bit of noise from the other rooms, especially the one above you so earplugs would be useful.
But other than that this place is everything that I like in a boutique hotel. I would definitely stay again.

Hidden away on a side alley, this is a quiet spot, but it's minutes (on foot) from Cuba street and Courtney Place. The bed and large and comfortable and the room, though basic, had everything we could need. We stayed in a room with a (private) bathroom across the hall; a bit awkward after showering but not that big a deal. For the location, the price is unbeatable if you don't need super fancy digs. We already have a booking for a second weekend made.

I stayed at Gourmet Stay for a few days' holiday. Overall it was a good stay but it's a bit different. The staff were friendly and unobtrusive, and the cafe downstairs was excellent (have the mushrooms, they're divine). My room was on the small side (think London dimensions) and would have been cramped for two people, plus it was almost impossible to watch the TV comfortably. Sharing a bathroom was not a problem at all, and the upside is that the bathrooms are enormous. The only downside was not having water accessible in the room. There was some street noise, and there is a business directly opposite which looks into the street-facing rooms. But for the price it was reasonable, and the location is excellent, in easy walking distance of Wellington's best gourmet venues and coffee shops. I would stay here again, but might choose a different room in hindsight.
