Having travelled NZ extensively for business over the pasts 4 years this is the first time I have had the opportunity to stay at The Copthorne. The position is lovely looking across to the city lights and to the harbour.
The rooms, including bathrooms are tastefully decorated and set out. I particularly enjoyed the armchair and foot stool.
After the second day, I realised the friendliness of the staff was not a "one off" but their normal every day business. It impressed me so much that this is the first time I have done a review.
Highly recommend this hotel.

Great position overlooking the bay with the city centre just a leisurely 20-ish minute saunter away. Walking distance to a wide range of cafes and restaurants. The room and service were excellent. Our room overlooked a small marina - a perfect spot to watch the yachts heading out into the bay - and to appreciate the city lights at night. Staff very professional and helpful.

We loved our stay here it wasn't long enough, easy to get out and about to bars and restaurants. Staff were really helpful and professional. Great room with a balcony, comfy bed, nice room.

I've stayed in plenty of Copthornes over the years, but unfortunately I wont be staying in any after spending two nights at Copthorne's Oriental Bay in Wellington, for one simple reason - the room we stayed in (can't comment about them all) had no air conditioning whatsoever.

Despite the fact that both evenings were very mild outside, the room got sweltering hot during the night with no way of cooling down. So both my partner and I have miserable nights, unable to open the window due to the noise of traffic etc.

And perhaps I’m spoilt since I'm a frequent business traveller, but to pay for wireless internet in this day and age at a hotel where the room rates are over $200 a night is wrong in my eyes. Some of us don’t have laptops capable of Ethernet connection, and can only use wireless.

Clean, modern, well appointed rooms, but a definite thumbs down from me because of the poor nights sleep. Definitely to be avoided during the even hotter summer months.

Thumbs down here.

We stayed here for two nights as part of our tour of New Zealand and loved Wellington the Hotel’s location is great right on the harbour and the reception staff were very helpful especially with tracking down our ferry tickets which should have been faxed to the hotel – on the other hand it turned out that they had been faxed but misplaced by the hotel!
We stayed over a weekend and on the Saturday there was a wedding. Unfortunately, this somewhat dominated the hotel. Due to a slightly weird configuration, as a result of the hotel backing onto a hill, there is a lobby on the 7th floor which you have to pass through if you are on one of the higher floors this lobby was also part of the wedding reception so we had to negotiate our way through increasingly more “merry” guests during the afternoon and evening. Our room was also directly above the disco and we could hear the music and DJs banter as clearly as if I had been in the room. This made sleep or even watching television in the room impossible but it was all switched off by about 11:15 pm
Our room was OK but we were unable to get a superior room – because of the wedding as it turns out. We had not appreciated that only the superior rooms have air conditioning so the room was very hot although the staff did bring us a freestanding fan when we asked.
The breakfast was adequate but nothing special. Based on Breakfast we did not choose to eat in the restaurant.
The other inconvenience is the parking. There is limited parking available at the back of the hotel which if you arrived back later in the evening is full it is possible to get valet parking but you have to pay extra for this.
