Travelodge Hotel Wellington
Ranked #13 of 47 Hotels in Wellington

The hotel is within walking distance of shopping, the cable car, and the waterfront. Ask the front desk for a map of the area; they were quite helpful in getting my bearings. The food is average. The quietness of the rooms makes for an excellent night's sleep. The elevator system is a bit tricky for some people, but I appreciated the security it provided by limiting the number of people who had access to the guest floors.

Dear Colorado Traveler 98

Thanks for reviewing the hotel, you have highlighted our location. The Hotel is located very centrally to all of Wellington’s points of interest. With the elevator all you need to do is insert your key to access your floor. Sorry you thought the food is average, this is not a typical comment in regards to the restaurant that usually receives high praise.

Kind regards

We had to make a last minute trip for a function at tsb arena, so to find a hotel only a five minute walk away was great. Parking was good and a reasonable price to what we have paid previously in welling ton, the check in staff could have been better. The room was great we had a awesome view of the harbour, clean, plenty of space, the bathroom was also big and spacious. We had three rooms booked for this trip and they were all great rooms no inconsistencies. I would stay here again.

This was so easy to find. A $9 bus trip from the airport and you are dropped almost on the doorstep. The reception staff were very helpful and we were lucky enough to get an early check in. Hotels in Wellington are not cheap. This was great value in an excellent location. The only thing missing is a fan or air conditioner as I think the rooms would get fairly warm in Summer.
The bar beneath the hotel had great specials for various days of the week.

Room Tip: Despite road works happening outside our room on the 17th floor was very quiet and we were able to s...

We did a last minute booking and this accommodation turned out to be much better than we expected.

For the price we paid, we had a nice room with a small LCD TV, a fridge, a wardrobe, a small luggage stand and a table with two chairs. There is a safe box and an iron board in the wardrobe but we didn't use them. Our room was located on the very top floor, but our window was facing another tall office building so we had to keep our curtains closed most of the time. Speaking of curtains, they were thick enough for the room to remain dark at 11am in the morning and we really loved sleeping in!!!

Pros:
1. Great location - so close to everything, even to the two Les Mills gyms
2. Excellent customer service at front desk
3. Clean and quiet

Cons:
1. No TV 4 or other free SKY channels other than sport and news (there were a selection of in room movies that we could pay for)
2. We found a used towel on our made up bed on our second day.
3. Not a lot of space in the shower for shampoo, conditioner, facial wash..etc.

Would we stay there again? Yes we would.

With Wellington, if you're not a hostel-go-er, you'll do well to find a decent bed for under $100. That's the nature of the beast. Travelodge fits, it was $99 and we stayed one Saturday night. It is expensive for what it is, and I'm being particularly lenient as we were upgraded not once but twice! I feel that for this price not only should parking be included but wifi, too. Parking is $20 per day and wifi is ridiculously expensive. The room itself was really good, really clean and had a great view. The location is fantastic and walking distance to almost everything you'd want to do in the capital city.

Dear Adamson20

I think from your opening comment in regards to hostels you are clearly not someone who uses hotels a lot. If you were, you would know that $99 for a 4 star city hotel provides excellent value for money.

We booked this hotel for it's location, which was great to get to where you wanted to go in a short space of time. The room was ample for what you need it for, facilities were good for the price. The only problem we had was on arrival we parked in the bays marked for hotel guests and paid at the machine located in the car park and then when we checked in they charged us for parking as there was no information at the machine to say we did not pay at the machine if we were guests at the hotel, they may have deducted some money from the amount we paid, but it is not clear from the car park what you need to do prior to checking in.

Dear Sharon T

Thank you for your feedback. I see you stayed in February but nice to receive feedback all these months latter. The car park is a mixed car park, meaning some is public parking and others are private. This includes the hotel and various offices which are marked accordingly the meter is for the public spaces. All the hotel bays are marked I am sorry you felt this was not clear. Glad you enjoyed the room and location. We look forward to your return.

The only positive thing I have to say about the travelodge is the location. Within walking distance to most things.

Upon checking in, we were given directions about where to park our car and given a slip to put on the dash board. The staff member also took my credit card details, I presumed like most hotels in case we stole/broke anything.

We wasted at least half an hour driving around the car park trying to work out where we were supposed to park from the directions we were given. Turns out it was quite simple, just explained very badly!

Upon getting to the room, we read the information card which said that the parking was $15-25 per night which we were not told when given the slip for the dash board and it didn't say it anywhere on the paper!

I then went onto the Internet (which is ridiculously priced. I paid $14 for 1 hour!) to find that my credit card had been charged $100. When I rang reception, they said it was a bond and that it would be reversed when we left providing the room was left ok. I completely understand that but again, this was not mentioned whatsoever when my credit card was taken, in fact the staff specifically said 'there will be no charge to your credit card as the room is already paid for'.

The room itself is modern but very small and basic. The shower only has half a screen and no curtain for the other half so the floor would be soaked by the end. We were going to have some laundry done but prices were so expensive ($5 per pair of underwear).

All in all, the hotel has a lot of potential and the staff were very friendly but we just found a huge breakdown in communication and were not told several things. Be prepared for all the added costs!

Dear Lauren W

Thank you for your feedback, we greatly appreciate all of our guests comments on our hotel. We are constantly striving for improved guest service and your comments help us towards this goal.

I am sorry you found parts of your stay with us disappointing, we know parking at times can be a harrowing experience which is why we have taken steps to ensure our team know to explain how to park with us to all of our guests and our prices are clearly stated on the registration paper you signed on your arrival.

With regards to internet pricing, a recent survey of Wellington CBD hotels showed that those who charge for internet are similarly priced to us. This means that we are market competitive. There are also other options you had by reading the guest information sheets provided in guest room or contacting our reception team that would’ve notified you of the 15min free internet in our lobby and coin operated net kiosk on our restaurant level.

The holding of your funds is explained by our team and there is signage at reception fully explaining what happens. It is normal practice for hotels to take a deposit to cover the cost of the room and/or incidentals.

Kind regards
Nigel Warwick
