Owner description: ZEALANDIA is a heaven of tropical bliss right on the doorstep of Wellington City. Affectionately referred to as a hidden gem ZEALANDIA received international acclaim for the groundbreaking predator free 8.6km fence. Since the completion of the fence in 1999 ZEALANDIA has brought a number of native birds, reptiles and wildlife back from the brink of extinction where they now roam freely through the 225 hectare valley. A visit to ZEALANDIA is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and a must for anyone visiting Wellington. There are a number treks to saunter, suitable for any fitness level. Alternatively step back in time with our interactive exhibition center or take a load off at the atmospheric Rata Café.

This is a wonderful attraction, we were a bit worried because on the day we went to visit the Karori Sanctuary, the weather was not pretty, so we weren't sure of how this was going to work with our trip to the sanctuary. But the weather didn't end up being an issue and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Karori Sanctuary is one of the things I miss most about living in Wellington. This is a great place for walking tracks or even just finding a place to sit and enjoy the view. Watching the feeding is fun and the guys there know what they're talking about. Learn and experience the native bush and wildlife right in the middle of the city!

Really great! Some great walks, but you don't need to be a great walker if you want to see the essential (follow the river and see the birds)

Had a friend over from the UK who likes birds and nature so we did a visit here and we had a good time, being a local I don't usually do these things, lizards were cool and even had a Weta threatening us on the dam handrail as we were going to feed it to the Tuatara if we had the chance
