I can't really fault this place at all: it has it all and more. Immaculatley clean throughout, friendly staff and amazing facilities - this place has got the backpacker formula nailed. There are two huge kitchens with ample storage and fridge space which means you're never falling over anyone while cooking or clearing up. There are 2 spacious dining areas, a reading/games room and a huge TV lounge with a projector screen. The rooms (we stayed in a 6 bed dorm) are spacious with plenty of space for all your belongings. Me and my girlfriend were seriously impressed with this place, so much so, we didn't want to leave! You're right in the heart of Wellington, and you can literally walk to all amenities in the city. The hostel is also across the road from a big supermarket, so need to be lugging bags too far!

Loved the fact that you can drink in the hostel, and yet the policy isn't by any means abused, i.e. there is nobody walking around hammered! It was also cool to see that the variance in age groups staying here - from school kids on a trip, to elderly couples touring New Zealand.

Can't recommend enough!

I really enjoyed staying here and I would definitely come back! Very clean & comfortable, great atmosphere & location. The TV room was great with a projector and plenty of comfy sofas - perfect for rainy Wellington days! Kitchens were spacious, well stocked and clean. The only complaints I have are: The internet was a little expensive I thought, $6 for one hour. And there are no lockers in the rooms. But apart from that, it is a fantastic hostel!

Love this hostel. Very clean rooms, kitchen, bathrooms and communal areas. Loads of places to sit and relax, lots of tables to eat around, two kitchens and woohoo! Loads of fridge space including a walk-in one, so no crushed food bags.

The TV room is fantastic, with a huge projector screen and about a hundred films to choose from for a $20 deposit, loads of comfy sofas and most importantly, bean bags that don’t stink of feet.

Location wise, it’s right around the corner from Courtenay Street and a few minutes walk from Cuba Street, where you’ll go for bars, restaurants and boutique shopping. Across the road is a big supermarket, so no lugging heavy shopping bags across the city, and the Te Papa Museum of NZ and waterfront. The CBD is about a 10 minute walk for all your main shopping.

The hostel itself just has a nice friendly feel about it. The only downsides are that the internet is quite expensive, but there are internet cafes around the corner, and there are a fair few school groups and families coming through. Reception staff were friendly and very helpful. Worth the money - highly recommended.

lonely planet truly describes this hostel as a 5 star hostel amongst all the youth hostels

its a clean neat centrally located place

the only downside is that it has no parking space in the vicinity and the gps couldnt get the address correct

just oppposite to the world famous te papa museum walking distance from cuba street (which has some fantastic city life ) ,the parliament bldg, and the botanical gardens

the common kitchen area and dining area is also large and comfortable

we took the twin sharing room with a attached bathroom and simply had no complaints abt the either the room or the bathroom-a real memorable stay the hostel and definately stay there if i happen to visit wellington again

Very central location in Wellington which is great (although an absolute nightmare to find in the dark, evne with sat nav! It's really not obvious despite being such a massive building!) Had aprivate room , simple and clean. Really big hostel and pretty modern, big kitchen facilites and loads of local information posted roud and about. Big computer room on first floor too which was very handy. Wellington is an expensive city for accomm and this yha was no exception but for where it was, really good. We did a fantastic walking tour of wellington whilst there, would really recommend.

Staying at the YHA Wellington was like luxury compared to some of the other hostels I had stayed in previous days on my backpacking tour of NZ. I stayed in an all female 4 bed dorm and although small was very comfortable and even had an ensuite bathroom. All areas of the hostel were well looked after and clean. It is slightly more expensive than some hostels but I think it's worth it!
