“Needs a little tlc”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

Stayed here for two nights. Good welcome on arrival, given milk, plans of city, how to get to local restaurants and to inter islander ferry. Unfortunately our bathroom could have done with a little a little tlc! Also only got a view of the back of the property. I'm sure had I got a city view room I would have thought it a lot better. Good location for Cuba street and all the place to eat. We're given fresh towels but didn't remake the bed, and this had always been done elsewhere. Also light not working in the corridor, very dark on your way to the lift.

This motor inn offers exceptional value for inner city Wellington with free parking, walkable distance to numerous restaurants, bars, cafes, food stores for supplies. Rooms are clean and well equipped. Our bathroom was newly renovated and plenty of amenities provided. Mark was an excellent host and said if we wanted Room 21 next time, just ring ahead to see if it would be available or he could try and make it available (ease of access on the first floor without needing the lift). The lift is about to be replaced and modernised. Don't let the facade of the building deter you as it's a classic. We'll definitely stay here again as it's perfect for a family with 2 children as they get the separate bedroom so you can get them off to bed while you command the main part of the room. Safe & quiet area of city which is also a bonus in the weekend. Excellent night views of the city from the kitchen window. Motorway on ramp is only a block away. Airport is approximately 10 minutes in normal traffic.

Located in walking distance to most places you would want to visit in Wellington, this inn is a great value. Helpful hosts, large room, spotlessly clean, great kitchenette, quiet, comfortable, with off-street free parking. Only negative was no free wifi.

We really wondered what this motel would be like. It turned out to be like a 1 room furnished council flat in a block of flats and that was fine. The room was large, quiet and well equipped. There was a heater. The bathroom was ok and the shower was adequate. The beds were fine. There seemed to be an enormous quantity of electrical sockets. There was a lift which was great except that after 9 30 you had to walk to the first floor to catch it. This wouldn't matter except after the climb up the street and then up to the motel well... The other blemish was I really couldn't get the tv to work except to play sports or vacuous breakfast shows. The laundry was cheap. The parking was free though awkward in certain spots. But finally what makes it a winner is it was 5 minutes from the top of Cuba Street.

We stayed here for three nights on the third floor. Although the building was surrounded by scaffolding, we weren't disturbed at all. Rooms were bright and well equipped, if a touch dated. Kevin, our host, was really helpful and ensured our stay was first class. Handy location for everything, with Cuba Street's many restaurants almost on your doorstep, and the harbour/cbd area a reasonable 10-15 minute walk away. Great restaurant around the corner The Bistro on Willis where Tom serves a lovely meal and is happy to chat to diners about what Wellington has to offer. Te Papa is a 'must visit' if in Wellington. We spent six hours there and still didn't see it all. Lovely food in the cafe too so every reason to make a day of it.

We stayed in the Penthouse suite. Getting up there was a bit of a mission due to the ancient lift and then a flight of stairs at the end. However, the journey was worth it once you got to the room as the facilities are very comfortable and the views are amazing.
The location is excellent with the cafe, restaurants of Cuba street just a stone's throw away. We enjoyed 4 days of perfect sunny weather which made it great to stroll around the city.
Car parking available on site is a little tight but the location is also great for driving with easy access to the motorway, the airport and the Kilbirnie Pool (where we spent a lot of time attending the NZ Junior Swimming Champs).
The accommodation was spacious, comfortable and very clean.
The only downsides where the noise of the city but I guess that is what you get for staying close to town. Also, the shower pressure was pretty mediocre.
All in all, a great weekend.
