West Plaza Hotel

Stayed at the West Plaza during the opening of the Arts Festival.
It's a nice 3 1/2 star hotel with all comforts but without the luxuries.
The rooms are basic but clean and tidy, have opening windows and a flat screen TV.
The bed is quite soft but very comfortable.
The location (SO close to everything) is the main selling point, although the breakfast (not a vast buffet selection) was very delicious indeed.
As mentioned, don't expect a 5 star hotel, but what you do get is value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room near the top floor, away from the main road.

I have stayed at this hotel in Wellington on all of my business trips and have received top service & friendliness on each occasion. The cleanliness of the hotel & the rooms is second to none. The meals are a delight with top ingredients and a chef who obviously enjoys putting it together.
This hotel I call "my home away from home" and it is; simply because I am made to feel welcome on each visit and the room is always turned down for me.
Thanks to Julie & all the staff at the front & behind the scenes who make West Plaza a top place to stay.

Room Tip: If you're needing some quietness- then ask for the bond street side :)

Great location for Courtney Place, water front, town hall/Michael Fowler Centre and an easy 10 - 15 minute walk to Parliament.

Very helpful staff. Front desk staff were especially helpful in finding me accommodation when my flight was cancelled and there was no accommodation at West Plaza for an additional night. They went out of their way to (successfully) find me a bed for the night. That 'above and beyond service' was appreciated.

Rooms are basic but most adequate although lack of air conditioning was a negative on a rare humid Wellington night!

Food service was good.

Overall recommended for business travel but possibly not for a romantic weekend.

Thanks for your feedback it’s great to receive such positive comments about the staff at the hotel. We are a mid-range value for money hotel located in the central city and your feedback helps others to choose our hotel when next in Wellington.

I stayed in a triple room with my two children. The good points were the price (only a few dollars more than a backpackers would have been for the three of us) and the location (very central, close to Cuba St and surrounded by great places to eat, library, galleries, etc.). Although the rooms are a little dated, the beds were comfortable and the towels were nice and fluffy. We were well away from the road so noise didn't bother us, but I was woken by the alarm clock in the room next door so I would say the soundproofing isn't too good. All in all, great value for money for such a comfortable stay in a fantastic location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street to avoid traffic noise.

Very centrally located in the heart of Wellington, close to Cuba Street shopping and dining area. A very comfortable hotel. Service was good and the bedrooms were well appointed. The in house bar was a little expensive but with so many choices nearby, this shouldn't be a problem. Be careful if you are driving a large people carrier as our eight sweater wouldn't fit in the downstairs car park and literally managed to get into the very small ground floor car park by half an inch. A very pleasant stay.

I had an average night's stay here, with the hotel room being okay but not notable for anything. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom a reasonable size. The carpet had not been vacuumed but the rest of the room was clean. There is a distinct lack of soundproofing so street noise does come through quite clearly, which is a problem for light sleepers such as myself. I mainly chose the hotel for its proximity to the Michael Fowler Centre, where I was attending an event, and a very reasonable room price of $110 on a Saturday night. Despite there being three staff on the desk only one was processing bookings so I had quite a wait to be checked in. The staff member was pleasant and directed me to the elevators and gave instructions on parking (see below).

I attempted to book parking in advance because I knew I would be arriving late in the evening but was told that they don't offer advance bookings. The parking building I was directed to was close by but has a silly rule about needing to buy a new ticket by 8:00 the next morning so it wasn't a very restful sleep because I was worried about oversleeping and having to car towed away - which has happened to me before. Definitely detracted from the experience and I'd only return if I knew I'd be arriving early enough in the day to have a good chance of being able to get a hotel car park.

Room Tip: I was on the third floor and there was a lot of street noise. Perhaps a room on a higher level would...

Thanks for your feedback it’s good to have the details of your experience so we can look at ways to be better. We are currently looking at a solution with the Car parking building next door in order to make it easier for guests to use this service when our car park is full. Due to our limited parking facilities we are unable to guarantee on site car parking.

This was a reasonably priced night. The room was fine, everything worked. View of a car park to be expected. Room was clean, bed comfortable. As always, I'd settle for a single towel, not 7....but that is a common theme in hotels. Lively lobby and bar, which is welcoming. Location on Wakefield is perfect for waterfront, museum, Cuba st etc. I'd stay here again.
