This hotel/bar has been around for a long time. It's obviously not as it was, but it's a classic old drinking venue. Great beers on tap and a bar man who is definitely part of the local scene.
Drinks are very reasonably priced, 2 cocktails and 2 beers for $40 is good for Wellington.
This isn't a place you stumble across, but if you've just spent 3 hours walking the hills of the Botanical Gardens, this place is a great watering holes within a short work from the eastern gates.

I booked this hotel after reading the reviews on here....

Positives... the room was a nice size, the shower was very powerful a little short for my self as I had to bend my knees to wash my hair! the bar was fantastic, staff very friendly and did table service which was very nice, awesome food!

Negatives... the room had a stuffy smell, it was tired and in need of attention, the walls were thin so you could hear everything!

I wouldn't have an issue staying here again as I enjoyed myself

Good value for money, friendly staff, room fine with fridge and tv but bed very creeky. Could do with a revamp but was clean and did the job. Wifi was good. Powerful shower although bathroom old fashioned. Free basic breakfast included. Not central Wellington but super close to some restaurants / pubs and Botanical gardens including cable car to the centre.

Great Area to stay nice village feel. Hotel was comfortable the staff were friendly and helpful. There was a free continental breakfast which was a bonus as we weren't expecting one,and the food in the restaurant was good. Easy walk to the rose garden and not too far into town for the cable car.The museum Te Papa is also worth a visit.
Definitely good value for money.

Forget the smart modern often-sterile hotel rooms in downtown hotels and step back to an era of comfort, space and friendly hospitality in an historic area walking distance from the railway station, parliament and the Botanical Gardens. It's family-friendly with big rooms that have an extra single bed and can fit a rollaway if you need an overnight stop before catching the inter-island ferry or you are having a family break in the Capital. The restaurant is also geared for families with top cuisine for adult palates but also a good selection of quality child-pleasing meals. Free parking on site is a real bonus.Staff are professional in a relaxed friendly way. Our three families stayed there for 2 nights for a special event and it was the ideal HQ for us. We will be back!

Room tip: The two rooms in the carpark annexe are big with a spacious bathroom, queen canopy bed, old-style large leather couch and coffee table.
