A short drive from the ferry led us to this hotel. Although booking.com states there is no parking at the hotel there is a public parking garage just across the street and on street parking is free from 1800-0800. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room is spacious and well restored. We had a ceiling about 15 feet high. Walk easily to many restaurants. Internet access while free is doled out in 50Mb accounts. The staff provided all the accounts we requested but running through the data and having to relog in is a nuisance but common in New Zealand. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for our Hotel. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. Your comments are very complimentary. We do aim to to ensure our guests have an enjoyable stay. With regard to your comments about internet access ....... Our present internet contract only allows limited access but we are presently replacing it with a contact which gives "unlimoited access" and we will then be able to be more generous.
Thank you for your positive review.

A very quick stopover inbetween a late arrival of the Northern Explorer into Wellington and catching the ferry the following morning. Our room, 'Budd', was a lovely sanctuary - flowery china teacups, heritage room with gorgeous ceiling corniche, vintage furnishings and a traditional black/white tiled bathroom with claw bath, separate shower, two washbasins and full range of toiletries. The interior of the hotel is lovely with a winding staircase and comfortable seating area. We would have loved to have stayed longer.

Room Tip: 'Budd' room is a lovely traditional room on the second floor.

We stayed three nights and had a fabulous time. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had a great room with this incredible high ceiling. We had fun with the old time elevator. The location is terrific - close to the bus/rail station and cable car.

Sheyah greeted us at reception. A complete DOLL of a woman, very helpful and effervescent about Wellington. JD Dallas, a very knowledgeable worldly articulate man. I felt like I was in an episode of Downton Abbey in a very good way. Lots of history to the building, comfortable rooms, personable staff. Great location. Not much on external views, but who cares !!!! If you like B and B's you will like this accommodation. If you want something contemporary and stainless steel with a microwave (the rooms have a fridge) go to a high rise.

Room Tip: The hotel does not lease rooms that they consider poor views. Talk to them and trust their recommend...

What a fabulous hotel. We stayed there last June while travelling around NZ on our honeymoon. We originally booked for 1 night but liked it so much we stayed an extra day. The old world charm and period features are something that simply cannot be recreated in a new hotel and this place has bucketloads of both. The staff at reception were extremely nice and efficient. The room was absolutely beautiful with its old décor and fittings, and the en-suite was fab. I understand this kind of hotel might not be to everyone's liking but the history, quirks and character was something we absolutely fell in love with. A great location too.

This used to be a Masons building: rooms are extra quiet; can't even hear other guests in the hallways! We thought we were the only ones. VERY friendly staff! Gorgeous room. Staff were exceptional - the front desk woman spent literally an hour on the phone trying to help us when our ferry reservation as messed up. They DO charge for early checkout even if problems arise out of control and even if you check out before their 11Am normal requirement time; so be sure to read your reservation carefully for cancellation policies. It was literally a few blocks from the train station - but on a side street and around the corner. Easy to find once you know. We were surprised to have to use the 'night buzzer' on the door a little after 5PM on the Saturday evening we arrived from the train, having expected the hotel front desk would be open until at least 9PM. We loved the heavy doors, nice room and history of the old hotel. When we had to check out early they held our bags for the day and even offered tea while we waited for our cab pickup! We only wished we'd been able to stay the second night as we'd originally planned.

Room Tip: All rooms are upstairs. There is an elevator. All were very quiet. Renovation was happening next doo...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate your comments.
In 1922 the hotel was originally a gentleman's club. Some 22 years ago it was converted to a hotel. Five years ago a group of Freemasons purchased 74% of the building. 26% was retained by the Wellesley Club. Agreement was reached with that Club to build the Lodge Room, to accommodate the Club in a new Club Room, and to continue the Hotel and associated activities.
as a 13 room hotel we cannot afford the luxury of 24/7 reception; the desk is staffed from 7am until 8pm daily (8am until 7pm weekends). receptionists have to b able to carry out a variety of guest services consequently the reception desk may be unattended for short periods. For security the front door is locked after hours and guests have a card to gain entry.
10:00am is the normal check-out time but arrangements can be made if possible for a late check-out. We are flexible where possible.
Cancelled booking is refunded 75% if through non- fault of guest and we can re-let the room. (25% is retained to cover our costs.)
We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and you are welcome to stay again.

The Wellesley is just a stroll from the Railway Station and the Bluebridge ferry terminal (and there is a shuttle bus from the Interislander Terminal to the Railway Station). It is pretty quiet (not so much when renovation works next door were in full swing) but very convenient to the shops, the cable car, Te Papa, the waterfront and so on. Hard to imagine anywhere more convenient!
The hotel is historical and the rooms are nicely refurbished with good facilities.
The building must have been connected with the Freemasons when it was built, and apparently still is. But the desk staff were very pleasant and helpful (although I have to say I've had more efficient breakfast service, they were keen to please!)
If I was lucky enough to visit Wellington again I would be more than happy to stay at the Wellesley Boutique.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We value your comments and are glad you enjoyed your stay. Thankfully the building next door is nearing completion so the noise will no longer be an issue. We are currently planning improvements to breakfast. We look forward to your next stay.
