The staff at the Bolton are consistently helpful and courteous. The pillow menu, where you can dial guest services to receive your pillow of choice free was amazing - I highly recommend the lavendar pillow - I slept like a baby!

Then woke to my complimentary paper, and made myself a pot of complimentary coffee. A great start to the day.

Beautiful outlook and close to parliament and Lambton Quay, and only an approx 10min walk to Cuba St.

Highly recommended.

I stay at the Bolton Hotel for business on a regular basis. Brilliant property for business travelers. Well located for Wellington, great local eating options. Rooms are very well appointed, clean and comfortable. One down side is they only do a Queen option so if you are staying with your partner be aware of this.

Love staying there!

As General Manager of The Bolton Hotel - I comment on this review.

Thank you for your complimentary feedback. Please note that the comment over the "only offer a Queen option" is not correct. The Bolton Hotel offers both King and Queen bed options in a variety of room formats. In fact we have more King Size beds in our property than we do Queen beds.

We stayed in a Premier suite for two nights and found it to be very well appointed. The suite could easily be used as an apartment for 1-2 weeks with a good sized kitchen area including a washer/dryer, cooking appliances and a well stocked mini-bar which includes essentials you may have forgotten.

The bed at this hotel was the best we slept in during our two week NZ stay. A pillow menu was a nice touch as hubby prefers the soft pillow and myself the firm. The bathroom was very clean and had a large separate bath and shower - I felt the overflow on the bath was set a little low so you couldn't fill it high enough (very minor point). We had an in-room meal which was enjoyable. Due to a hotel promotion, broadband Internet was free during our visit, however there is normally a $30 charge.

Staff at the hotel were friendly but the atmosphere of the hotel was definitely focussed on the business traveller - it was just missing that certain something. Having said that, we would absolutely stay at the Bolton when we are next in Wellington as the rooms are beautiful and the sleep peaceful. We enjoyed our stay at the Bolton very much.

The location of this hotel can't be beat. It was in easy walking distance from both government and law school buildings- but it was the kind, courteous and helpful staff that really made us feel comfortable. When we arrived at the end of the 7s rugby weekend they made us an offer we couldn't refuse- because our room was not ready they offered to upgrade us at a reasonable cost. The result was a week in a fantastic suite that made the stay much more pleasurable for myself and a colleague. The staff made great dinner recommendations which were also an easy walk down to the wharf and pier from the hotel. All in all a great stay and I would definitely return.

We spent some nights in the Bolton Hotel in January 2010, also in the summer before.

Location:

The hotel is located in the town centre. You can easily walk to the shopping areas, also to Te Papa museum, which takes about 15 minutes from the hotel. The hotel offers only valet parking, but you can also park the car on the street in front of the hotel paying with coins for the time you need.

The hotel provides a free internet access for hotel guests in the lobby.

Rooms:

The rooms are modern, spacious and immaculate clean. The first time we were there, we were upgraded into a junior suite with kitchen and separate living room. Everything, also the normal rooms, were very comfortable. Be aware that the windows in the rooms cannot be opened and that you are therefore completely dependent on the air-conditioning system. Rooms are facing either town or botanical gardens, but it might be that the botanical garden view is more a view to the hotel’s garage entrance or to the cemetery right behind the house, in particular if the room is located on a lower floor. So if you like to avoid this maybe it is helpful to ask for a room on a higher floor.

One time, we arrived early in the morning (around 10 am) and just wanted to store the luggage somewhere in the hotel to return later, but found our rooms already being ready, so this was a real good thing!

Last time, after having left the hotel, we received an email from the hotel some days later asking if we took a bottle of wine from the minibar without having payed for it, and declaring that they have charged it to our credit card, which we, of course, did not appreciate very much, because we did not take it. So why could they not wait for our answer before charging it? In the end, after not only one phone call to the hotel and some time of waiting for an apologizing email from the hotel the amount was finally recharged to us. This was the only a bit annoying thing.

Top end hotel. Impressionable with high standard well equipped room, the kitchenette even contained a mini dish washer
Excellent pool and gym.
First class restaurant
Does not look too impressive from the outside, but the interior more than makes up for it.

Stayed in Premier Suite and was pleased with the room layout with bedroom separate from living. Beds comfortable. Bathrooms nice but weak shower. However this seems the norm in most city hotels.
Service was friendly and efficient. Would stay again.
I can thoroughly recommend the Cathy Davis Beauty Spa next door but one. I had a fantastic facial and they even did a free make-up for me. I also had my hair washed and blow dried and was very pleased with the result. This place is a one stop shop for pampering with lovely staff.

As General Manager of the Bolton Hotel, I comment on his review:

New Zealand in general has very good water pressure particularly in urban locations and the Bolton Hotel is no exception. Recently as part of our Qualmark Enviro Gold achievement we installed water efficient shower heads with the option for the user to select Hard, Medium and Soft spray settings. This feature has been very popular. On inspection of this issue raised it was noted that the prior guest in the room had used the soft spray mode which to some could be considered inadequate.

Having recognised this point we have now implemented a procedure to ensure the settings on the show head are reverted back to Medium water flow. Measuring this we are producing about 11 litres of water per minute. The guideline for a good flow shower is 10-12 litres, with a flow less than 12 being considered positive for the environment.
