Quest provides a good professional service, if you are looking for a place to put your head down for the night in the city without any bells and whistles (but they do have washing machines & driers in the rooms etc) then I feel Quest on Johnson is a good option. There are also a lot of local bars and restaurants in walking distance.

There is nothing fancy about these rooms but within a small space they've managed to pack just about everything you could want. A kitchenette, bathroom with shower (only), good bed, tv, tiny table, small tub chair. It was clean and well located in a central area and the reception staff were very helpful. I had only two little issues; the first was that both wardrobes were long enough for shirts but not trousers so it wasn't great for hanging my business suit. And there was very limited space in the bathroom for all my bits and pieces. Having said this, it was of course possible to find solutions for these minor problems. On the plus side internet fees were very reasonable ($35 for the week) and unlike many hotel rooms this one was beautifully lit with lots of lights if you wanted them and dimmer option if you didn't. I'd return, it was very good value for money.

Johnston St is right in central Wellington, and this property is just around the corner from Lambton Quay and Parliament. So great for walking around and seeing the sights of the CBD, or if you are there to work, it would be a good location too.

The decor is modern, and the two bedroom apartment we had was certainly big enough for four people. The smaller bedroom was set up with the queen bed, while the kids had a TV in their twin room (and a better view too). Although the bathroom is very small, there was no room to swing a cat in that space! There is no air conditioning, the windows do open and heaters are provided, although we didn't need them as the temperature was mild.

BUT, the maintenance on the rooms is very poor. We had to move from the first apartment we were assigned, as the TV wouldn't work due to a faulty wall socket. (I would rather have been out sampling the night life, but with two kids, those days get left behind!)

The second apartment had a working TV, but the dimmer switches on the lights were pretty dodgy and went from off to full on with very little in between. Other guests were complaining to the staff at the front desk that the shower mixer was extremely difficult to set to comfortable or safe temperature for children.

Last point, Wellington is well known for being windy, and this tall narrow building has a noticeable sway in high winds if you are on an upper level. If this would disturb you, I recommend asking for a room on the lower floors.

Room Tip: Avoid upper floors if you don't like to feel the whole building sway in the high winds you often get in Wellington.

Nice modern apartment. Only 4 rooms per floor. Near center of city, rail, bus and ferry. Not much of a view. But the room was nicely furnished with a washer/dryer. Which took a long time to wash and dry but I think that's how they operate.

I stay regularly in the studio apartments at the Quest On Johnston which is centrally located in Wellington near many restaurants, and adjacent to the famous Kirkcaldie's department store and Lambton Quay. Of all the hotels in Wellington, I prefer this modest hideaway for (a) its reasonable deals (b) the friendly, efficient staff and (c) its proximity to central spots in Wellington. The internet arrangements are a bit cumbersome, requiring purchase of a chit and code, but the advantages make up for this small convenience, especially if you have a mobile internet connection for your devices. The rooms are small but perfectly comfortable, with a washer/dryer, small kitchen, and the usual amenities. You can request, for a small price, a continental breakfast of cereal, yoghurt, fruit and juice. Plunger coffee, tea, and milk are included in the tariff (a nice touch; hotels often charge extra for coffee). There is also detergent for the washer, which is good for those staying for a few days. I have stayed at other Quest apartments but like this one best because ... you can't go wrong here. A single exception: we did once stay in a one bedroom Quest On Johnston apartment which (based on that apartment) did not impress: the furniture was old and frayed and had a strange layout.

Room Tip: The studios are comfortable and very good value for money. Request a continental breakfast if you don't feel like going out; this will be waiting in your fridge, and can be replaced each day.
