This was my first time at the Quest on Johnston but I have used other Quest properties. The service at reception was friendly and efficient and the room very acceptable.

I had a studio room on the 8th floor - not huge but it had everything that one needs: a table big enough to work on (with two powerpoints hand), a fully equipped kitchen and a very comfy bed.

The thing I really liked was having a powerpoint above the bedside table - being able to plug in the cellphone charger without crawling around on the floor trying to find a plug was great.

The bathroom was a little small but there was plenty of pressure in the shower.

Sleep quality was fabulous. Johnston Street is not a major route, so the room was very quiet.

The deal I was on included 1 gb of free wifi, something one doesn't get often at New Zealand hotels.

Conclusion - well worth it

I stayed here for 2 days on business and was overall happy.
Check in was friendly and fast. The corridor had a funny smell like cooking onions, but I guess with guests self-catering in the rooms it is to be expected. The studio room was spacious with only a single seat/couch, but 2 seats at the small dining table. There's a heap of cupboard space with lots of hangers. The TV was wall mounted beside the window and at head level - so watch it when you open/close the curtains as you may bang your head like I did.
The only heater was a small, oil column (or fin) unit that wasn't good enough during a cold spell. Eventually, the room heated up, but it does take time and not great on a cold morning. Rooms facing Johnston St are a bit noisy and I was woken at 4am with street cleaner noise that wasn't great. The bed was comfy though a bit hard.
The bathroom was too small and badly laid out. There's no space for your toiletries and the shower is bang up against the basin so you barely had room to brush your hair in front of the mirror without banging your arm. However, the shower was large and had plenty of hot water and pressure. Oh, and the towels were fluffy and soft.
So a few minor flaws but overall good. I may stay there again, but would prefer somewhere that was quieter.

Stayed here for a few months with work. Rooms vary, studios are spacious, the two bedroom units are huge. Staff were great, very accommodating. The front front rooms can be a little noisy but that was mainly due to the construction going on across the road. Great location, close to the waterfront and lots of great places to eat. If you get sea sick, don't stay here on windy nights. The building is on rollers and it moves in heavy winds. The higher up you are, the better it gets. I loved it. If you stay here, you have to have a meal next door at Junipers. The food there is first rate and the staff are fantastic.

Room Tip: Get a room on the back if you can

My husband and I had an overnight stay at Quest on Johnstone. We came to Wellington by train and found it was an easy walk to this hotel, even pulling luggage and in steady rain. The receptionist was extremely helpful and booked us a taxi for early next morning. The accommodation was of unusual design as it was long and skinny but it was very comfortable, clean and totally satisfactory to our needs. We went out for dinner and found a nice Malaysian restaurant called Long Bar, not too far away. Wish we could have stayed longer in Wellington.

Cannot fault the location, very central and the rooms were clean and tidy but on the small side as is the bathroom.

The staff member who checked us in was very helpful and went the extra mile finding us champagne glasses which was much appreciated.

Not sure we would stay again if we had other options but a good clean spot with a great location.

Room Tip: Studio is very small

We stayed 3 nights in a compact, clean but charmless room, sixth floor front. Had to duck under the television to open the window a crack. Small bathroom with little room for toiletries. Functional kitchenette. One sachet of ground plunger coffee supplied per day. Fridge not cold, melted ice in freezer section. Not good value, not first choice, but accommodation in Wellington at a premium.

We stayed 3 nights in a studio apartment and found it compact, but comfortable and clean. The room was very quiet, no noise from other guests at all, and this was during rugby 7s weekend.
Bathroom was small with little room to put toiletries out, took some juggling.
Coffee was terrible, I drank hot chocolate instead (supplied)
The only issue was discovering we had no toaster when this is a self catering apartment!
When I rang reception to ask where the toaster was I was told they have been removed due to guests burning their toast and setting off alarm. I was offered a toaster if I agreed to pay fine if alarm goes off. I accepted toaster and had no problems.
