“History of Whanganui a tara”

Interesting to read of those who lived here before us. A great Heritage Trail a great way to weave your way through a 'hidden' gem. Learnt alot too.

“Secret Wellington”
Reviewed 9 March 2013

We took our lunch to the cemetary. There are gravesd of lots of well-known Wellington settlers, a lot of them children who succumbed to flu and measles. We found it very interesting to see the footprint of the old grave diggers cottage - 4 rooms - where they raised 7 children. This was demolished in 1910 but they have marked out the foundations. There are many mature trees and a very tranquil atmosphere. This is well worth a visit when you are in Wellington.

“History recorded”
Reviewed 11 January 2013

An interesting view of Wellington history and the people who came to New Zealand. Given that large portions were moved to make way for the motorway, it has character and peace.

“Restful place”
Reviewed 1 January 2013

Go for a stroll through the pioneer cemetery, on your way to or from the Gardens. So peaceful right in the city. Take a guided walk, or eat your lunch, or read a book on one of the park benches.

“An interesting shortcut”
Reviewed 25 November 2012

If you are walking down from the top of the Cable Car through the Botanic Gardens, take this interesting shortcut to the Beehive and the CBD.
There are many historical graves to explore and it's also a nice walk.
The Guide leaflet is at the bottom of the path, which is the only downer (maybe you could ask for a copy at the i-Site before catching the Cable Car).
