“Probably value for money”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

Recently stayed 4 nights is a one bedroom thinking it may be larger than others, it wasn't. The rooms are very small and the bed a double making it rather tight. Tiny lounge with one chair and TV about a metre away unless laying on bed. Ok I think for a one or two nighter, but started to get cabin fever with very little natural light. Overlooking service alley was very noisy in the early morning with trucks coming and going. Handy to central Wellington via some negotiating of alley way and car parks but that was fine. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Rooms were clean and had bare min cooking utensil etc but probably enough for a functional kitchen. Car park in the service alley was $15 a day but probably reasonable for location.

Room Tip: Go for a larger room deal and check out whether got larger windows or not.

Thank you for providing us with feedback on your stay.

I'm happy to hear you found our staff helpful during your stay with us.

Our one bedroom apartments are advertised as - One Bedroom Apartments are similar to our Studio Apartments, but they feature a separation between the kitchen and bed space. [sic] to further avoid any misrepresentation we advise the floor area is 21m2 and the exact dimensions of the double bed which is included in the room. Further to this we photographed the smallest two one bedroom apartments we have and did not use a wide angle lens.

Our studio deluxe apartments are larger than our standard studios and one bedroom apartments and this is reflected in the price.

Our friendly reception team could have arranged to move you to a studio deluxe had this been brought to our attention during your stay as we aim for 100% guest satisfaction.

I'm pleased you found the room clean and the kitchen functional. We are one of the few hotels in Wellington which offer car parking for under $30.00 per night which is located on site for guest convenience for a very reasonable price of just $15.00 per night.

Please contact me directly to arrange your next stay with us as I would like to ensure we book you a room which better meets your requirements.

Kind regards,

Natasha Pennell

We loved it here, we spent our first night in Wellington then travelled around and spent the last three nights of our trip here also.

Caroline was fantastic and very helpful, the location is great you feel like you are far away from it all but the short cut to lambton quay is great and everything is close by.

Internet costs $10 for 24 hours but it's fast and reliable :)

Room was great, comfortable bed, great tv, spacious room and good sized bathroom.

We will definitely come back!

Thank you for taking the time to write such a positive review!

I'm really happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and found our inner city location convenient.

Thank you for your positive feedback regarding Caroline's helpful service she really is an asset to our team.

We now offer one complimentary internet voucher to guests who book direct through our hotel to further enhance our guests overall experience. For guests who book online through other websites I believe our internet pricing plans which start from just $6.50 still offer fantastic value for money.

We look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future.

The staff here were absolutely wonderful.

My husband and I arrived into Wellington on one of it's classic windy / rainy evenings and it made all the difference walking into a clean, comfortable and suprisingly spacious room. Two minutes later, we had a hot cup of tea in hand and relaxed on the bed!

Stafff were next to none, always friendly, helpful and willing to share any local knowledge or tips.

Good price for the central city and only an elevator ride down to one of the main shopping streets - lambton quay.

We would definitely recommend to anyone.

I had a wonderful stay here...the room was clean with high ceilings, a great little kitchenette and I LOVE that there is a washer/dryer inside the room as well, with free packets of washing powder... so handy. I didn't have any problems with noise or lights (the curtains blocked out the light for me and I also requested a quiet room, so maybe that helped).

The location was perfect too... it took me roughly 10 minutes to walk there from the railway station, with luggage (there's a shortcut through the James Cook Arcade parking garage - I emailed them for details beforehand and their directions were perfect) and the bus stop for the Airport Flyer (91) is right across on Lambton Quay. It was nice being so close to the main street without actually being on the main street, which I think would make it a lot noisier. It was nice to just grab something quick at the Wishbone in the Arcade, and the New World Supermarket is just a few minutes away. Te Papa was an easy 15 minute walk as well.

Service was very friendly and helpful... really, I'm not sure what else you need. I would definitely stay here again.

Exceptional service, clean and comfortable and best of all it wasn’t expensive.

I booked online and received emailed instructions advising their check in procedures. My partner and I were arriving after hours, we were given a code to the lock box which had our key and access instructions inside. Too easy!
In the morning, the lady at reception (Natasha?) was lovely and gave us plenty of options of things to do close by. They gave us a few good restaurants and cafes to visit. She also knew all of the events happening in Wellington such as the summer markets...

The room itself was clean, and designed well. The bed was comfy which is unusual haha! Also the shower pressure was AMAZING. The room was quiet and the decor was neat. I especially liked the black and white photographs displayed throughout the hotel.

Overall I would recomend Gilmer, as we really enjoyed our stay at a great price. The staff were so lovely and welcoming. They acomodated to our every need, and ensured a great stay.

The rooms come with "free ear plugs". Enough said? The building is on an alley which is used at night to service the real hotels. Garbage trucks and service vehicles crash and bash their way up and down it all night. There are 2 parking ramps next door which are brightly lit, and tires screech as the cars wind their way up and down. If your company puts you up there, you may be left wondering what you did wrong! On the plus side, the people working there are lovely.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay. I’m sorry your experience was marred by a late night traffic accident directly across the road from our hotel. I’m sure you appreciate that this event was unexpected and out of our control. As we are located right in the heart of Wellingtons CBD from time to time some noise is to be expected therefore we provide complimentary ear plugs for all guests. Our Hotel is on a quiet street nestled in between two other hotels so road noise is not usually an issue. Our newly refurbished rooms have top of the line black out drapes which (when closed) block out all external light. Thank you for your positive feedback regarding our staff, I’m pleased you found them to be lovely. I hope you will come back when in Wellington for business as I would like to personally ensure your next stay meets your expectations.

We spent two nights at this hotel and it ticked all the boxes for us. The location is exceptional and a two minute walk sees you very much in the heart of the Wellington shopping district. It is so handy to all the attractions we were interested in and there is a supermarket nearby which has all the supplies a traveller would need. The room itself was not overly spacious but one probably wouldn't expect it to be in such a central location. We had a few problems with the height of the pillows on our first night but when we looked next morning, there were other pillows available much more to our liking. Our apartment had a washing machine\dryer which was very handy. Parking was available at $15 per day which for central Wellington seemed reasonable. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Thank you for your positive affirmations regarding your stay with us. We do have an exceptional location, right in the heart of Wellingtons CBD.
In our studio deluxe apartments we offer two types of pillows to ensure a good nights sleep. After taking note of guest feedback all of our hotel rooms now contain brand new washer dryer combos which we provide washing powder for so I'm pleased you made use of this added facility while you stayed. We look forward to your next visit.
