We hadn't found the Austinvilla on Trip Advisor so were flying blind, but we were absolutely not sorry to have flown there. We were delighted by every aspect of this B and B apartment, from the location (a bit away from the crush of Wellington's vibrant downtown "scene", but only a short walk apart), to the accomodating, knowledgeable hosts, to the lovely, sequestered nook that was the studio apartment we came to think of as "ours". The Austinvilla is reminiscent of the best of a San Francisco enclave, almost a tree house in atmosphere, but right up the hill from some wonderful, funky restaurants, and a brisk, even more uphill climb to Mt. Victoria. The offstreet parking was a special boon in the city, so we could access our car if we wanted, but didn't have to, really, since everything was within easy distance. We loved our host's restaurant recommendation ("Hazel's") and appreciated his orienting us on the city map when we arrived, exhausted from a challenging arrival drive through the mountains. We'd love to go back -- tomorrow!

We spend 24 days in New Zealand, where we stayed in B&B and motels. I selected all accommodations based on Tripadvisors reviews. There were only 2 places [Wellington and Kaikoura ] where all the top 10 places at the tripadvisor were booked and I had to choose an accommodation without knowing what to expect. Austinvilla was one of them; [the other was Endeavour Heights in Kaikoura – very good as well!]. To be very honest I’m surprise that none has posted a review of Austinvilla as I thought it was such a great place!

Austinvilla is on Mt Victoria, which offers great views of the city and is very close to main attractions as the Te Papa museum and the harbor. It’s about 10 min walk to those places, but the way back can be a little bit tiring as the last block to the house is very steep.
Nevertheless, the location is just perfect! The house is in Victorian style in a residence neighbor [very quite!] and very charming.
When we arrived, we were welcomed by Zarli, a nice young men who helped us with recommendations, directions and also how to use the guest laundry.
We stayed in the beautiful Garden Suite. It had a living room with a small kitchen, a bathroom with shower & bathtub [bathtub are not very common in NZ!] and a lovely bedroom. The living room and bedroom have French doors to a private garden. It looks so nice that it seemed to be a place from a house style-magazine!

In the evening, when we went out for dinner, Zarli brought the breakfast and putted in the fridge [fresh fruits, jams, juice..] so he wouldn’t “bother” us in the morning.
My husband and I enjoyed Austinvilla very much. Normally if I return to a place, I don’t go back to the same accommodations, because I like to stay in different places, and see different things, but I wouldn't mind going back to Austinvilla!

Finally, I can say that if you like to stay in a quite place not far from the main attractions, have lots of privacy and a beautiful accommodation, then you will not regret staying at this place. Only remark is if you have disabilities: There are stairs in the front of the house and not easy access.
Other remark: Austinvilla offers parking outside the street. That is really a bless, because parking on the streets can be quite expensive in Wellington. [Hotels charge between 15 and 20 NZ$ a night].
