The Glacier boat trip was a unique experience. A beautiful morning, we ere picked up as explained, transported in a comfy smallish coach, then walked from the car park - an easy & pleasant walk to the boats. The first sight of the glacial lake is fascinating and compelling with the small icebergs from the latest 'calving' floating calmly on the blue/milky lake with the dramatic moraines and mountains behind. Our guide 'Chris was charming, knowledgeable and friendly. We went right up to the icebergs and touched the ice, looking at the ancient 'blue ice' before the sun and light bleached it clear. The perfect clarity of the ice revealed small rocks & fragments that had been frozen into the glacier as it made its way down the valley perhaps thousands of years ago. It felt safe but quite awe inspiring. The views all around were amazing - so much to look at including the face of the Tasman Glacier. A great learning experience too.

It was a real value of money sailing on boat and seeing lot of icebergs floating around us ..Earlier we were confused whether to do boat trip or just to see glaciers just by walking from car park ..But it was a wise decision to spend on boat trip as one cant see the icebergs so closely without taking the boat ..it is a one of its kind experience and we are glad we did it ..highly recommended..

We went on this boat trip and really enjoyed it, really quite exciting. It was a gloriously warm sunny day and the lake looked magnificent. We were very lucky that a few days before our visit a massive piece of the glacier had broken off so there were lots of "fresh" icebergs on the lake. We were able to get up close to these and touch them an take pieces off them. Many of the icebergs were the spectacular blue colour that you only get from fresh ice. Good commentary from our skipper, can't recall his name, but he was from Belfast so lots of Titanic jokes. Bit of a walk to and from the coach car park but boy was it worth it.

While staying in the Mount Cook region we went on the Tasman Glacier Boat trip. This was a great experience. The boat driver (Duncan) had a great knowledge of the area and the Glacier in particular. We got up and close to the "icebergs" on the lake. Unfortunately, we didn't get as close as the pictures in the brochure portray, but can see that for safety reasons why this is not possible. Perhaps an option would be to take a pair of binoculars or even if they were supplied for use on the boat would be great.

We did two organised activities that started from the Heritage Hotel, one was a boat trip on the Tasman Lake and the other took you to a location above the Lake and Glacier to get a different viewpoint of the landscape. This is a definite 'must-see' if you are in the area, and the guides on the tours we did gave you an idea of the massive rate of change in the Tasman Glacier over the past 50-odd years. There are free short walks around the Tasman Lake if you don't want to pay for the guided tours (which were around 75NZD and 145NZD each).
