We stayed at Sherwood Lodge for one night of our 6-day trip to the South Island and when it was time to leave we certainly wished we'd booked for longer.
Craig and Pippa were remarkable hosts and after dinner we enjoyed a very pleasant evening chatting with them in front of the fire - I mellowed out with a glass of red while my husband (most embarrasingly) drank their entire complimentary bottle of port! Their company was discreetly offered and should we have wanted privacy I know they would have left us alone, however their laid back conversation proved to make a wonderful night even better!
For dinner we were asked what we felt like (no set menu) and the meal Pippa prepared was thoughtfully planned - I'd had terrible indigestion from a too-rich dinner the night before so she selected delicious but plain food which was really appreciated.
We stayed in the White Room and that super-king bed was bliss!
This lodge is based on comfort and relaxation so if you want modern, in-your-face finishes this isn't the place for you. However, if you want to escape to a place where you will be comfortable, cared for and able to completely unwind then look no further than Sherwood Lodge.
BTW: Pete the Butler is incredible at his job and is the "icing on the cake".
