Hi Kath, so kind of you to give us a great review and so fast too! Glad to hear you enjoyed your time in our little cottage, it's such a great place to snuggle down in. Forgot to tell you that Highfield does Sunday breakfasts, but it sounds as though you might have discovered that already! Maybe see you again next year?

“Peaceful, Delightful Marlborough Gem”
Reviewed 1 April 2017 for a stay in January 2017

We loved staying here.... location, views, super comfortable bed. VERY cool shower (the Tardis!). Mary Jo greeted us warmly and showed us around. She also gave us lots of good infrmation about 'things to do' in the vicinity. Appreciated the welcome basket with wine and other goodies.
The cottage (especially the kitchen), is very well equipped. Fun to prepare meals and eat there, then retire to the back deck with a glass of wine, watching the sunset...
Thank You for a very relaxing way to finish up our trip in the South Island.

So glad you both enjoyed the cottage, it's such a great little place to stay! You also had a sensible amount of time there - 3 nights gives you a chance to relax and forget the stress of living-out-of-a-suitcase for a while, and Marlborough is a glorious region, with lots to do.. Would love to see you again, and should you return you'll have the company of two very adorable black Labradors, rather than one - new puppy arrived in mid-February (complete handful at the moment) should be under control within the next few months, hopefully! Brookby Ridge was a beautiful location to spend our time in Marlborough. The view of the vineyards and mountains was fantastic. Mary Jo and Richard were excellent hosts. We were greeted with a welcoming basket that included a bottle of wine from Marlborough. Brookby and Guiness reminded us of home. We stayed an extra day and cancelled other reservations as we were so impressed with our accommodations! We will book for ten days next time! See you in two years!

Great to meet more lovely guests who were thrilled to be in NZ and happy to put up with the antics of our two black Labs. Thank you so much for the beautiful flowers (still going strong) and those kind words in your review, it's what inspires us to always do our best for our visitors. Here's to 2019, the road from Kaikoura to Blenheim (SH1) will have long been repaired by then, so even more fantastic views to be savoured! Take care. Mary-Jo & Richard.

“Fabulous hidden gem of a cottage in a fabulous location”
Reviewed 6 February 2017 for a stay in January 2017

What a find! A private cottage set apart from the owners house on top of a ridge overlooking Brancott Estate vineyards with a backdrop of the amazing Wither Hills.

The cottage has everything one would wish for at home, far more than the prescribed minimum for rental properties/motels/hotels. It simply is a home from home.

Mary-Jo is a lovely, engaging host who, after introducing the property disappears to leave us in privacy, but is always available if needed for anything. The fridge even had complimentary wine, butter, milk, bread, jam, etc. Fabulous!

Sadly, we never met our true host, Brookby the black lab who was in kennels, but we were assured that he would have loved us.

The wifi was free but to be honest a bit slow and patchy.

Thank you for that wonderful review, John. It was a delight to meet you both after all this time. We'd like to think the cottage is a little piece of home for all our guests, - it's quite a long flog getting here sometimes, and it's lovely being able to just drop your bags and collapse on the sofas or deck with a glass of chilled white wine. Two nights is never enough for this stunning region, and if you ever come back we'd love to see you. Hopefully the adorable Brookby will be her then too, along with her new little partner in crime (arriving today!), who we think will be just as much fun.
Wobbly internet - thank you for telling us, no-one's mentioned it before, we'll have to sort that one out quick smart!

“Delightful Marlborough Stay!”
Reviewed 11 December 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Our five night stay at Brookby Ridge Cottage was the highlight of our trip to New Zealand. First of all, location, location, location--high on a ridge overlooking one of the Brancott vineyards with a lovely deck which was perfect for morning coffee or an afternoon glass of Marlborough sauvignon blanc. The cottage was very private, though the owners were just the other side of the olive grove, (Very handy when the rental car wouldn't start one morning and Richard, one of the owners, drove his tractor over and gave us a jump). Mary Jo and Richard, the owners, were lovely people who offered many suggestions for things to do and vineyards to visit while we were there.

The cottage was nicely furnished (loved the wood burning stove in the living room on chilly mornings), the kitchen was fully equipped (we enjoyed breakfast there every day and dinner on three nights), the bathroom was roomy with a marvelous shower. There were many photos of New Zealand sights taken by our hostess, Mary Jo, decorating the walls of the cottage. And we mustn't forget Brookby, the best dog in the world, who came to visit with us several times a day.

Thank you so much. Marty, for such a great review. Our guests are a constant delight to us and we love meeting you all, and so does The Black Lab, as you discovered :0)
We work long and hard to ensure that everyone's stay is as successful as we can make it. We've done a lot of travelling over the years, gaining an enormous amount of experience along the way, and we take the view that if we like the way things work then our guests will too. Holidaying can be hard work at times, and it's lovely to be able to just collapse in a heap, enjoy a little bit of luxury and chill out every now and then! Would love to see you if you're ever in this little piece of Paradise again. Best wishes to you both for a wonderful Christmas and a happy and peaceful New Year.

“A special experience in the heart of Marlborough”
Reviewed 5 October 2016 for a stay in December 2015

This is a lovely property high on the top of a hill overlooking one of the vineyards. It is a
one bedroom cottage with small olive grove at the back and the view from the front deck
that I never tired of day or night, overlooking the vineyards, the hills and in the distance, the
small airport. Wild pheasants would stroll along the hillside and the deck was a perfect
place to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning, read, enjoy a glass of Marlborough's best
as the sun is setting.
The cottage is well furnished and the wood burning stove is a delightful added touch.
The owners' of the property live in a home on the other side of the olive grove and are
terrific people.
We did many day trips hiking, boating, checked out many of the vineyards and restaurants
that are excellent.
We enjoyed every day of our two weeks and would highly recommend it .

Liked best: We felt as if we were really experiencing everything the area had to offer, not from a hotel room.
Liked least: We liked all of if.

“Visual Splendor - Wine Fanciers Dream!”
Reviewed 5 October 2016 for a stay in February 2015

We thought the accomodations looked great on the internet but when we arrived .... fantastic!! The cottage was very comfortable and well appointed with all the thing you would need in the kitchen for a 2 week stay or a couple of days relaxation. And the view from the deck! The whole of Bancourt vineyards, the 'cut' between the N and S island and hills in the distance - who could ask for more! But there is more - wineries galore with the best of Sauv Blancs in the world, the coast road and beaches, cheese shops, great little bistros ........ almost went to a realtor! The best part is the graciousness of yoor hosts Mary-Jo and Richard (plus Brookby the sweetest Lab in NZ) - great folks that make your stay one of the best you've ever had. Thanks guys - can't wait to get back!
